  1. Thank you! I didn't know the official website already had more information. Does anyone have experience with the 'tickets packs'? Are they predetermined combinations of events to visit? How do you guys imagine they will handle the draw? What will prevent people (or scalpers) from entering loads of mail accounts into the draw to skew it in their favour?
  2. Thank you! I just looked up all the locations and definitely underestimated the distances between a lot of the stadiums (and the fact that handball is only held in Lille). My favorite sports might not be easy to combine. I would probably prefer 4-7 days with 1-2 event per day and some time to enjoy the city over a full schedule of 2-3 events and lots of travelling.
  3. Second world cup in Albstadt today. Men: Thomas Pidcock Nino Schurter Vlad Dascalu Women: Rebecca McConnell Jenny Rissveds Mona Mitterwallner We don't have any Austrians on the forum do we? I don't think Austria has many medal chances in the summer Olympics, but they might get one in the mountainbike womens race. They've got two great young riders with Mitterwallner (20 yo) and Stigger (21 yo).
  4. Cool! I was in a hotel between the Royal Mile and Holyrood Park earlier this week. Second time I've been in Edinburgh. Felt like a great place to live!
  6. I was on holiday in Edinburgh (beautiful city!) and walked around on Grassmarket. Is Grassmarket, Edinburgh also where your username is from @Grassmarket?
  7. Van der Poel just beat Dumoulin in a time trial. This guy can do anything! Except beating Yates today I guess.
  8. I like your programme. A lot of variation packed into three days and a nice idea to take the car to Lille for a quick one-day return as well. Is there a specific (sports or practical) reason you prefer the first weekend? I wish I had any indication about when to plan train tickets, hotel and the Olympic tickets as well, but I've got no clue to be honest...
  9. I have also been thinking (or daydreaming I guess) about a Paris 2024 trip. I have no prior experience attending the Olympics live, so I'm afraid I might be planning a little too much and much too ambitious. Best case scenario I'd like to go eight days friday to friday and attend 1 sport session every day: Friday 2 aug: BMX racing finals Saturday 3 aug: swimming OR athletics Sunday 4 aug: swimming OR athletics Monday 5 aug: volleyball women quarterfinals Tuesday 6 aug: track cycling Wednesday 7 aug: volleyball women semifinals (OR athletics OR track cycling) Thursday 8 aug: field hockey final (OR athletics OR track cycling OR handball OR beach volleyball) Friday 9 aug: beach volleyball finals I have no clue how difficult it is to obtain tickets to an athletics session or knockout games/finals in various team sports. Any combination of these sports I would be super happy with though. And if it isn't possible, I can always try a sport I don't normally attend or take a day off and enjoy Paris.
  10. Itapema, Brazil Challenge Tournament Women: 1. Kolinske/Hughes 2. Stam/Schoon 3. Andressa/Vitoria Men: 1. George/Andre 2. Perusic/Schweiner 3. Luini/Penninga Another tournament, another podium for Stam/Schoon! Really spectacular start of their season so far. On the men's side the podiums have been different every tournament so far. Next stop: Doha, Qater Challenge Tournament 5-8 May
  11. I agree we're not going to improve on the Tokyo medals, everything really came together last year with super dominant squads in rowing and track cycling and everything going right for the athletics squad. Other athletes I'm really curious about are Mathieu van der Poel (will he ride the road race?), Sifan Hassan (which events will she run?), Van Aanholt / Duetz (sailing), Niek Kimmann (BMX racing) and Emma Oosterwegel (heptathlon athletics).
  12. Two different Dutchmen won the two biggest monuments Flanders and Roubaix! Incredible season by Van Baarle. They say his 2nd place at the world championship last year and the confidence the national coach gave him really empowered him.
  13. First world cup of the season just finished in beautiful Petropolis! Women: 1. McConnell 2. Terpstra 3. Lecomte Men: 1. Schurter 2. Marotte 3. Dascalu Huge win for Schurter who finally equals Absalon's world cup wins record. Austrian talent Mitterwallner made her senior debut with a 5th place in the womens race, after dominating all the u23 world cups last year.
  14. Big results at the Rotterdam Marathon today: TWO national records! Abdi Nageeye, 1st place in 2:04:56 Nienke Brinkman, 2nd place in 2:22:51 in her 2nd professional marathon Brinkman is a special story. She was a field hockey player just below the national professional level, so she choose to go for a career outside of sports. As a researcher in Switzerland she started running mountainous trail runs. She ran so fast that she decided to train for a marathon, and just debuted straight into the international elite at 28 years old. And now she holds the national record!
  15. Wow Xandra Velzeboer just dominated Kim Boutin in front of the Canadian crowd!!
  16. Of course I fully agree that urban sports potential as great (live) spectator experiences, doesn't change the fact that sports like skateboarding need a proper minimum age for competing. And I also still prefer more traditional time or points based sports over jury sports. I also just realised that the X-games have been a thing for probably decades. But a small 'X-games light' with BMX, skateboarding and beach volleyball in the Netherlands, I would probably enjoy. So I'm seeing a little potential.
  17. I know the urban sports aren't the most popular on this forum, but honestly these combined urban sports events sound like a blast to attend as a spectator.
  18. I feel like in theory Annemiek van Vleuten won the time trial with more and better training and more competition, but I just had to vote for Leontien van Moorsel. Her incredible talent and impact is still greater to me.
  19. Rosarito, Mexico Elite Tournament Women: 1. Stam/Schoon 2. Kravcenoka/Graudina 3. Talita/Rebecca Men: 1. Cherif/Ahmed 2. Brouwer/Meeuwsen 3. Mol/Sorum Incredible result for the Dutch pair Stam/Schoon, I believe this is their first world tour win! Their bracket wasn't easy either, they beat Olympic silver medalists Clancy/Mariafe in pool phase and the arguably best pair Duda/Ana Patricia in quarterfinals. Hopefully this is their definitive breakthrough as an 'elite' pair. Good result by the veteran pair Brouwer/Meeuwsen as well. They're 32 and 34 by now and still competing in the absolute top of the field. Next stop: Itapema, Brazil Challenge Tournament 14-17 april
  20. Wow Zoë Deltrap absolutely dominated the shorttrack tournament! Three individual golds AND the mixed relay gold! Other than Deltraps 4 gold medal haul, we took 2 bronze medals in boys shorttrack and girls snowboard big air. Overall a great result for the Dutch team if you ask me!
  21. takes the gold on the girls big air, silver and bronze!
  22. I really appreciate your constant efforts to keep us engaged with these polls! But right now I would say let's take a break until the next Olympics are closer. For me the 100 days/100 polls to the Olympics format before Tokyo was still the best one.
  23. takes gold and silver in the mens 1500m after a messy final. RIP medal table lead 11:00 - 11:15
  24. Yeah I've been watching all of the shorttrack today right here: https://eyof.tv/.
