    Is it still the Olympics if the events aren't in one country? I mean, the main reason why the Games are special because the entire sport community gets together and celebrates an old tradition. Without that it's just a bunch of events happening at the same time around the globe.

    Greece and Hungary. But watch it to be Italy and Netherlands. I just got a feeling from watching the Dutch girls against Italy that they aren't in their best shape, Greece on the other hand seems fully prepared. Now, by the same logic I should predict Italy to qualify against us... but I am Hungarian, so I won't. I will also hope until the very last moment that our girls will be much more prepared and focused against Italy.

    We wouldn't be getting these conflicting reports if there wouldn't already be some major concerns behind the scenes. Bach and the Japanese PM confidently declaring that the Games are happening smells like pure PR talk, just like how the UEFA is still 100% behind the idea of an EURO2020 in 12 countries. Reminds me how politicians usually completely deny a bad news (like higher taxes) until the very last moment. They will continue to do this until the demand for cancellation will be too big to ignore.

    Thankfully Brazil wasn't a tough opponent today, maybe they are getting more tired as the WCh goes along. So we are playing for the Top8 against Poland. This definitely feel like an easy road to the Top8 than 2017 where we had to beat Denmark in the Round of 16, but I am expecting a very close match.

    There's also one other obvious mistake: the continental representation shouldn't be decided by a tournament where already qualified teams can play. For example, we lost our chance for the European quota because Spain (who already qualified for Tokyo) beat us in the Semifinal. Spain was the only team that beat us at the European championship. Meanwhile Russia, who we beat in the group stage, got the quota because the 2nd place in our group meant that they avoided Spain until the final.

    And that was bullshit as well. If they have to limit it to 6 teams, that sport shouldn't be at the Games. And it's not the top 12 teams' fault that the rest of the world doesn't give a shit about women's water polo. Nothing is stopping Croatia and Serbia for example take it more seriously because they already know how to play the sport on the men's side.

    But they deserve 12 teams because it's an Olympic team event. Either a team sport deserves to be at the Olympics, and therefore it should have 12 teams, or it doesn't deserve to be at the Olympics at all.

    That tournament was under IOC, not FINA. And the male French team wasn't losing their games by 20 goals (Italy and Montenegro only beat them by 3 goals). The female Slovak team is much, much worse.

    The difference is that Greece beating Hungary is a believable outcome, so is Netherlands not beating France by 13 goals. Slovakia beating Italy on the other hand... that would be dangerous because I think FINA would consider disqualification. It's not worth it for Italy, they can beat us, and Greece might actually be stronger than us at this tournament.

    It would be hilarious if Greece and Italy will qualify after this.

    It will be interesting to see what Netherlands will do because they know now that Greece is dangerous, but they don't know if we are weak or if we just decided somewhat consciously to not play water polo today.

    I am not sure when was the last time our girls played this horribly. We are either "resting" for the SF, or we are fucked. Event at our time out at 2-5 it looked like our girls aren't nervous at all about the match.

    I think the Dutch girls will make sure that we will face Italy no matter what happens on our match.

    We are playing quite terribly against Greece. Maybe it's partially because we aren't taking the match too seriously.

    Is this "next best team" thing something new? Because our male team got 1st place in their group last year based on their overall goal difference.

    Oh.... now it makes sense why the Dutch weren't attacking all the much in the last minute. I just thought that it's simple goal difference like in most team sports.

    btw, I must say that it's ridiculous how either Hungary or the Netherlands will miss the Olympics. But this is partially on the Dutch girls, they didn't play well at all today.

    Well, congrats to Italy, I am pretty sure they will play against Greece because they will close the group stage against Slovakia, which means that they are in control of what the pairings will be, so this draw is the perfect result for them. Both teams looked beatable based on what I have seen from the match, so I think we can steal the quota from the Dutch girls. But we might also be similarly weak against a stronger team because of COVID and our girls can always shit their pants when they are under pressure, so who knows.

    Well, Italy is certainly doing a better job than last year at the ECh. Bad news for us.

    Well, that 2nd point will surely help Orbán here, and will be used against the opposition for the next election. "Look at what Biden did! The liberals will also bring Muslims to Hungary!"

    Yeah, maybe I am naïve. The conservatives in my country still hate on the left-wing PM who resigned in 2009. That was 12 years ago.

    Hm... maybe? But unless the Dutch lose simply because they had a bad day, I think we will prefer the team that loses the ITA-NED match.

    I am just glad that people won't be able to blame him for everything anymore, I got really tired of it after a while. It must be a sad day for the American news media, Biden is pretty much the most boring president ever, their ratings will plummet.

    6 exclusions on HUN-KAZ for Kazakhstan.

    We didn't play well at all in the 2nd half, and we still somehow beat Germany. I guess we will soon find out if this win is enough for the Top8, it can certainly make the main round a lot more chaotic in our group if we won't defeat Poland and Brazil.
