  1. Russia got the easier draw in Men's épéé, they got and on their path to the SF while we have and . I have a bad feeling about this. Anything can happen in épéé, but I think Russia is now even more of a favorite to take the European spot. I hope Siklósi will carry the team this time, he's in the individual SF.
  2. Also, foil or sabre isn't harder to understand than most Olympic sports. I have no clue most of the time what's going in the "artistic" sports with their point systems, but I would never get rid of any of the gymnastics events. Foil or sabre are also not harder to understand than other combat sports like judo.
  3. It doesn't matter what is "easy to understand" when we are talking about events that have been on the Olympic program 25+ times. It was a travesty that the male fencing team events had to take a break one time during the last three Games considering that they have a century long history at the Olympics. Traditions should matter at the Games, and these events are as old as the Modern Olympic Games themselves.
  4. You are mixing things up regarding the age of sports. We are talking about compound archery, which is a very modern discipline, and only got introduced at the World Championships in the 90s. Compared to compound archery all the fencing disciplines are ancient and have been on the Olympic program since 1896/1900. And the only people who would ever support the idea of a mixed all disciplines fencing team even are the ones who don't understand the sport at all.
  5. Wrestling is losing events / quotas because women's Greco-Roman still doesn't exist, and the clock is ticking for both wrestling and GR. FIE did their job over the years and introduced female sabre and épéé in the Olympic program.
  6. Anna Kun had a pretty good day in Kazan, she almost made it to the SF. It's going to a really hard call who to send to the Zonal qualifiers (as far as I can tell we can only send one fencer). Szász is the reigning Olympic champion, but she's 38 years old, she might not have the form to qualify.
  7. I thought that it would be nice to look up which nations are eligible for the zonal qualifiers and have at least one athlete in the individual Top100 world ranking. Men's sabre Europe: Asia & Oceania: America: Africa: Women's sabre Europe: Asia & Oceania: America: Africa: I will do the rest for the others when they will have their final ranking.
  8. The reduced number of quotas sure did their job, it's already apparent that many European countries will have smaller teams than in Rio, maybe even Russia. We are currently 3 quotas short (5, we had 8 in Rio), I will be happy if we get at least one more in Sofia, anything more would be a bonus.
  9. I think substitutes are usually not counted for the provisional team sizes because they are technically not Olympic athletes, and they can only become one if they will actually be part of the team for at least one match. So for example in fencing the +1 athlete will be counted in the end if they will fence during a match after a substitution, but for now the team size is 3.
  10. Technically we can get eliminated if Kazakhstan wins against Russia and Serbia and then Russia wins against us by many goals. But I don't know what is even our reality anymore if that happens.
  11. This might be the strangest thing I have seen in handball. It's not like they can eliminate us by giving this match to KAZ, our goal difference is way too good for that, so I am not sure wtf the Russians are doing.
  12. Yes, if Romania wins by 6 or more goals. Meanwhile Russia is sleeping against Kazakhstan, they better not make the group more complicated.
  13. v 29 - 24 Norway can still get eliminated if Romania wins by 5 goals tomorrow on a high scoring match. But both Romania and Montenegro would have to work really hard for this specific scenario to happen, it would be kinda crazy if they eliminate Norway.
  14. Sorry for being late for this but I was able to catch Kinsinger's match during the HF of the handball match, and man, what an amazing throw. Sometimes this sport can truly be beautiful.
  15. A magyar női kézilabda válogatott és Korpási Bálint (birkózás) is kijutott az Olimpiára! Soha rosszabb napot.
  16. A very convincing performance from Korpási today, he might actually have a chance for an Olympic medal at the end of his career.
  17. Just like with our female water polo team on their most important match for Tokyo, pretty much a perfect game from our girls. I am not sure what's going on with the Hungarian teams lately, but it almost feels like COVID helped them to prepare mentally, I would have never guessed that our football team (EURO 2020), the female water polo and handball teams would all qualify for their main tournament.
  18. That's a shame, I hope Torba will get the quota in Sofia, he seems to in great form.
  19. So which nations have a lot of people working in Japan (other than Japan, duh)? Maybe the US? Those nations will probably have a few fans "from home" as long as the venues won't have to be closed down from all spectators.
  20. GR 130 is a bit ridiculous and it kinda always has been, right? Every point scored from an action feels like a miracle. Anyway, our GR wrestlers are delivering after the embarrassment of the previous two days, we got 3 quota chances in the end. Korpási must be our best chance, I think both Torba and Varga need a smaller miracle against Kamal and Semenov.
  21. Will he try again in Sofia or will the Bulgarian team change their minds?
  22. Jesus, was the ref with us on that one, or Korpási survived "on his own"? I thought that they will call it for Dimitrov.
  23. I just noticed that we have 3 v QFs, this should be interesting, @Federer91 I will be happy as long as Korpási survives the round.
