  1. ...related to my last comment, it's hard to believe it's been 12 years since Athens.
  2. Glad to finally see Greece win another gold medal. Hard to imagine it's been 8 years since they had won one...
  3. I really dislike the seeding (or lack therof) is done in the women's soccer tournament. Canada finished third in their group in 2012 and had a similarely dificult draw to the other two teams, this time being second gives you a better draw. It's weird.
  4. Superb comeback by the Germans in show jumping and superb showing by Jung. Two almost flawless Olympics in a row.
  5. 17 - 12 from Rugby and the five from the rellay (including Penny). From watching quite a few Rugby 7s over the past few years I feel this is about the deserved position for this team. Glad they showed their potential in the bronze medal match.
  6. Surely the team gold will sooth things over? Besside, it's not like South Korea has a history of gold medals in men's individual archery (London was their first).
  7. That was an absolutely terifying fall, glad they seem alright though. Wasn't so sure for a few seconds :/
  8. Well, that was an entertaining game if nothing else...
  9. I actually wish Karate was just Kata (and team Kata) conpetitions. At least that's something unique (and IMO Kumite just looks terrible on TV).
  10. No, that's later (9th IIRC).
  11. Aren't a lot of the good Dutch players from their Caribbean islands?
  12. What a match by Canada. Beating Australia while being down to 10 most of thr match is very impressive.
  13. Tripartite places are reserved for countries that averaged less than 10 athletes in individual sports over the last two Olympics. India qualifies too many athletes to be eligible for invitational places.
  14. Wow, looks like Canada just won it's first ever Weightlifting gold medal... I mean, I'll take it, but WTF?
  15. Really glad she is going, especially since Dabrowski's qualification depended on it. At least when Milos withdrew he didn't prevent someone else from going since Nestor was ranked high enough to replace him in doubles.
  16. They could at least have given the IFs some guidelines as to how to handle deciding whether or not to ban Russia >.>
  17. Because the FBI totally let Marion Jones off the hook and covered for Lance Armstrong... There is zero evidence of state sponsored dopping in the US.
  18. Also incredibly unfair to the Kiwis that had their spots rejected.
  19. Team Canada: Dressage: Megan Lane on Caravella Belinda Trussell on Anton Eventing Rebecca Howard on Riddle Master Colleen Loach on Qorry Blue d'Argouges Selena O'Hanlon on Foxwood High Jessica Phoenix on A Little Romance Show Jumping Yann Candele on Showgirl Tiffany Foster on Tripple X III Eric Lamaze on Fine Lady 5 Amy Millar on Heroes Sadly no Ian Millar, but it will be some consolation to him that his daughter Amy will make her Olympic debut. Very female heavy team (8 women, 2 men).
  20. Aww come on man, there's that one Cuban guy, a couple guys from north Africa and IIRC there's at least one guy born in Qatar :O
  21. It isn't a "real" wild card, the rules specify that a former grand slam or Olympic singles champion in the top 200 that isn't directly qualified through direct entry can get one of the last six spots (limit of two athletes per singles draw can qualify that way) as long as their country hasn't reached the athlete limit.
  22. I guess it's not that shocking Lochte had a bad 400m IM, he just recently came back to that event after a long layoff. Kalisz will be a solid medal threat.
  23. It's a bit ridiculous. You'd think the FIVB would want to promote it's event >.>
  24. Big dopping related news that affects qualification. The IWF has updated the list of countries with quitas removed: Azerbaijan - 1 m / 1 w Belarus - 1 m Kazakhastan - 1 m / 1 w Moldova - 2 m North Korea - 1 m / 1 w Romanian- 1 m Russia - 1 m / 1 w Uzbekistan - 1 w Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia all face a one year suspention of all the re-tests from 2008 and 2012 are confirmed, so they might miss the Olympics entirely like Bulgaria.
  25. In the span of about a week Khazakhastan went from 5 to 0 all time gold medals in weightlifting...
