  1. For me is aimed at domestic consumption. BTW, Brussels and Ukraine is happening at the same time as far as constructed "enemies" are concerned. Does anyone still fall for this? Maybe someone over 80 years for sure. A couple of years ago (but after the war broke out) an old man (in his own admission he was 82) in a local bar tried to convince me that without Don Vittorio in the government, I would be already fighting in Eastern Ukraine Needless to say, he was unsuccessful.
  2. Yes 1896-1936 it's counted as GER (1920,24 summer and 1924 winter Olympics banned so no medals)
  3. Pre WWII Germany (no matter which form of government so applies to pre and post 1933 as well) competed as GER , same as now
  4. I am with you on this one. I am almost as disappointed that did not get the 3rd place at most as if I was Italian. Definitely much less (if at all) disappointed at the performance is as before the Olympics everyone knew that HU short track is out as a medal contender (at least for now) with that Italy definitely deserved the 3rd place with at least 10 sports they medalled in. If the curling mixed doubles (where you were title holders) went into the final and then lost, would have the missing silver for 3rd place. Obviously, other sports could've made up for that.
  5. Oléoléolé Are these the last medals of Italy or is there more?
  6. Good that you weren't alive during the 1988 winter Olympics (where you didn't even win gold - at home no less!)
  7. I remember the previous one (which was removed this week) was caught following local porn actresses on social media shortly after he came to power And if I understand correctly one of the reasons he was removed now was that he hired different young women in the state administration without any qualifications whatsoever - I assume not without "something" in exchange... It seems poor Peru continues to be unlucky with his presidents Not that they're the only country to do so.
  8. It reminded me to the international game show "Games without borders" (Jeux sans frontiers) - Gen Y and older might remember that. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeux_sans_frontières I didn't know that (according to the Wikipedia article above) it even had a winter version
  9. Well what did the Hungarian do? Seriously asking as I did not follow much the short track competition this Olympics. And on whose behalf was he supposedly working? Probably not Hungary, as they do not have any competitive athletes this Olympics and you need to cheat more than Lukasenka if you want to put someone from 16th place into medal positions. Not reflexively defending the guy as if he did seriously cheat he wouldn't be the first international sport official from being corrupt. See the "good old" Tamas Ajan who was the pinnacle of corruption in the corrupted and dirty sport of weightlifting. (This is even independent from the political setting as Ajan had nothing to do with the present day "government") But really interested in what his errors, real or alleged, were.
  10. Never saw this sport before but immediately thought the same during this competition. Apparently I was not mistaken
  11. Wow! Something big is brewing here ... Go !!!!
  12. Didn't comment on the cause of his fall or the fall itself but on the scene after. Many ppl could not finish the slalom course anyway.
  13. Poor McGrath walking into the wilderness (and then lying down in the snow) will be a topic for some memes I suppose. There was once in F1 when Alonso lied down on a sunbed (I think after he crashed or his car broke down?) and there were a good number of memes about that.
  14. Finally a biathlon gold for ians! Also nice the 7 place for
  15. BRIGNONEEEEEEEEEE!!!!! And Schiffrin outside of top 10 lmao
  16. So now only 2 golds from the magical 6/6! Good job for the ians BTW!
  17. Don't know about the first one but Nemour's situation is similar (in a way) to Braathen's: it wasn't a plan or an intention from the outset to compete for other country than that they originally represented/they were born in (maybe for more money or to make history etc), but the original country or its federation is at least partly to blame for the country change to happen. Without the respective country's or federations missteps, both Nemour and Pinheiro-Braathen would now be French and Norwegian Olympic gold medallists, respectively.
  18. Also the Kazakhs probably. Nobody expected gold medal for their skater.
  19. Yes I now see, I remembered it wrong: he was member of the men's team in 2022 (2nd) and not the gold medal winning mixed team.
  20. Probably would not say perfect as it would not be fair with the virtual elimination of all the medal hopes of Hungarian short track even before the Olympics (departure of the Lius and injury of the best non-Lius) But today with the gold medal of Prevc I would raise my vote to 8.5 from 8
