Wasn't able to watch the match as I'm at work, but I gave up hope after I saw that they were trailing 0-2. The highlights of this match must be incredible. Can't wait to find a proper video tonight.

Came back from 0-2 in sets after losing the second set with 25-15.

Let's see how this pans out. A few years ago, we said that Croatia would have a great Fed Cup team with big talents Vekic and Konjuh shooting up through the rankings. Vekic is now coming through again with a career high ranking of 37, though the expectations were much bigger for her, and Konjuh is not inside the top 400 right now. They're still young though, but Osaka for example is exactly the same age as Konjuh, and Ostapenko and Sabalenka are from the same generation outperforming these two at the moment. Hope that for Ukraine the situation will be different.

I mean that Brazil would get 3 points for a victory and Japan 0, resulting in them both having 21 points.

3-0 victory against Japan, then they would tie in wins, in points and in set ratio with Japan, but Brazil's points ratio would be better than that of Japan.

Best result ever at a World Championship for Our previous best result was a 7th place in 1998.

Annemiek van Vleuten fell after 55 km, broke her knee, and still managed to finish in 7th place.

Good championships for the Dutch with golden medals in many different disciplines. These were my highlights from a Dutch perspective: First golden medal in diving in a very long time; Sharon van Rouwendaal winning 3 golden medals in open water swimming, just missing out on a fourth golden medal today, helping the Netherlands win the medal table in open water swimming. Winning the medal table in track cycling with 5 golden medals; Four Dutch women in the final of the BMX tournament; Sanne Wevers winning gold on balance beam again after a rough two-year period after Rio 2016; Sifan Hassan dominating the 5.000m today. At the same time, the Netherlands also had the most successful sailing world championships ever (winning the medal table) and the Dutch team won the hockey world championships in a very dominant fashion. So overall, August has been a great sporting month for us so far. Other achievements that I was very impressed by include the men's pole vault competition, Kolesnikov dominating the backstroke sprints, the Ingebritsen brothers winning gold and silver with Jakob winning two titles within 24 hours, and Dina Asher-Smith dominating the women's sprints with three golden medals.

Impressive sprint from Hassan. Too bad that the scheduling is this bad, because I would have loved to see her run the 1.500m as well.

The draw for the Final Six has been made: Pool A = Pool B = I would be surprised if either and/or makes it through to the semis.

Ik heb zelf 10 jaar aan karate gedaan, ook meegedaan aan NL kampioenschappen voor jeugd/junioren, dus dan zal ik mij wel focussen op de Nederlandse prestaties in die sport.

Another thing to note is that the majority of these Championships take place during the second half of the season (February/March), while the majority of the World Cups are skated before Christmas. That's why you see that there are always skaters who do well before Christmas in the World Cups but don't win medals at these Championships as other skaters manage to be in their best shape when it matters most.

We can try, though I have very limited time during the week. During the weekends I do have more time.

Other results that sort of surprised me: Min-Seok Kim, Olympic bronze medallist on the 1.500m, only finished in 3rd position here on the 1.500m 1,5 seconds behind Allan Dahl Johansson and 0,5 seconds behind David la Rue. Koki Kubo skated a new Junior World Record of 1.07,76 on the 1.000m, which is now also the new Japanese senior NR.
