  3. Exactly, another 30-year old. Which is fine, if that 30-year old is world class, but 4:12 in Inzell isn't world class at all. And looking at the results, there are no youngsters coming through.
  4. Kodaira already skated a 37,30 in Nagano this season, 0,17 slower than her track record. No one this season has come close.

It's impressive that she still wins national titles at age 46, but it worries me that in Inzell - where five Dutch skaters skated under 4:06 in the past month alone - no other German woman manages to skate sub 4:12. Germany was a country that used to dominate women's speed skating not that long ago.

  10. Wasn't able to watch the match as I'm at work, but I gave up hope after I saw that they were trailing 0-2. The highlights of this match must be incredible. Can't wait to find a proper video tonight.

  12. Let's see how this pans out. A few years ago, we said that Croatia would have a great Fed Cup team with big talents Vekic and Konjuh shooting up through the rankings. Vekic is now coming through again with a career high ranking of 37, though the expectations were much bigger for her, and Konjuh is not inside the top 400 right now. They're still young though, but Osaka for example is exactly the same age as Konjuh, and Ostapenko and Sabalenka are from the same generation outperforming these two at the moment. Hope that for Ukraine the situation will be different.

  20. Good championships for the Dutch with golden medals in many different disciplines. These were my highlights from a Dutch perspective: First golden medal in diving in a very long time; Sharon van Rouwendaal winning 3 golden medals in open water swimming, just missing out on a fourth golden medal today, helping the Netherlands win the medal table in open water swimming. Winning the medal table in track cycling with 5 golden medals; Four Dutch women in the final of the BMX tournament; Sanne Wevers winning gold on balance beam again after a rough two-year period after Rio 2016; Sifan Hassan dominating the 5.000m today. At the same time, the Netherlands also had the most successful sailing world championships ever (winning the medal table) and the Dutch team won the hockey world championships in a very dominant fashion. So overall, August has been a great sporting month for us so far. Other achievements that I was very impressed by include the men's pole vault competition, Kolesnikov dominating the backstroke sprints, the Ingebritsen brothers winning gold and silver with Jakob winning two titles within 24 hours, and Dina Asher-Smith dominating the women's sprints with three golden medals.
  21. Impressive sprint from Hassan. Too bad that the scheduling is this bad, because I would have loved to see her run the 1.500m as well.
