No new or dropped countries from this weekend. Unfortunately, Belgium lost their 2nd women's quotas so we only have 11 teams eligible to enter a team in the mixed relay now. Hong Kong also lost their only female quota while Australia and Latvia gained their first female athletes.
 
One more competition to go. Remember the worst results get dropped so we could see a lot of changes next weekend.

Ok so I have given it some thought this week and I am willing to try to organise a contest. It is getting quite late in the year so the Grand Final might have to wait until after Christmas and New Year but let’s see how things go.
 
I will probably make it a more stripped down version to make it more manageable to organise but I think having the contest at all is more important.
 
Also I think I’d rather make this the Annual edition since we did not have an Annual contest this year and I think it would be nice to keep that tradition alive. The Open Contest allows us to pick songs from almost any period so there will always be a chance to showcase those songs any year. But for Annuals, it has to be songs released in the last 12 months and those songs haven’t had a contest since the 2024 Annual so I think it’s better to host the 2025 Annual now and then figure out where things go from there.

some mysterious accident happened to him in Qatar where he was playing professionally (apparently being electrocuted while entering a hotel pool) resulting in a heart attack. he was comatose for couple of weeks, still nobody really knows what happened to him in Qatar and the Qatari police doesn't try to help.
 
this somehow becomes a national tragedy. his health condition was on top of the news this whole time. he was a nice kid, such a sad story 

Hmm peer pressure ay?, I haven't been really attention to the nba since free agency and there are so many confusing teams this year that I don't have fully formed opinions on yet but sure your wish is my command. 
 
I will hate some of these predictions in a few weeks and I have too many teams in the middle so one or two of the teams I picked to win in the mid 30s are not going to be good at all, it is just really hard to know which. It will probably just come down to who has a bad start and owns their own draft pick. Also one or two of the teams in the west that fully expect to be playoff teams are going to have a rough season. I have it as Dallas and Memphis but there are other options. Also I think the age thing might be a problem for golden state/ the clippers but I'm not going to change my picks.
 
  Eastern Conference       Team Projected Wins Comments 1 Cleveland Cavaliers 54-56 Its weird given that the east is worse and the Cavs roster should be better than last year that I don't think they will win as much but its just hard to win 60+ games.  2 New York Knicks 53-55 There are flaws with this team but new coach, better depth (Yabusele) and someone in the east has to be good. 3 Orlando Magic 48-50 Desmond Bane will help but this team will struggle for shooting as long Banchero, Wagner and Suggs are their best players. They should be a top 3 seed but a lot of people thought that last year. 4 Atlanta Hawks 47-49 In theory, this team should be better but its Atlanta so . 5 Milwaukee Bucks 45-47 They are just Giannis and some dudes now but in this conference that should lead to a playoff spot. 6 Philadelphia 76ers 41-43 I know, I'm dumb for having them in the playoffs. 7 Detroit Pistons 40-42 They were intriguing in the playoffs last year but I don't love this roster. 8 Indiana Pacers 39-41 The Haliburton injury still hurts and I'm not even a pacers fan, but this team still has an identity so maybe I'm delusional but I still think they are a just about a playoff team. 9 Chicago Bulls 39-41 I mean I really like Matas Buzelis, The rest of this roster is weird though. 10 Miami Heat 37-39 How many mediocre teams can there be in this conference. 11 Boston Celtics 36-38 The will try hard and I don't love having them outside the play in but this can't work right. Also Tatum is not coming back any time soon. 12 Toronto raptors 35-37 Another confusing team that doesn't seem to know whether it is coming or going. 13 Charlotte Hornets 33-35 They are at the point in a rebuild when you are supposed to start getting better, Whether they will or not is a different question. 14 Washington Wizards 25-27 They have been tanking for so long that they have to end up with some decent players at some point and we might just be nearing that point. 15 Brooklyn Nets 16-18 I like some of this roster and Jordi Fernandez but they have 5 first round rookies and will give up on the season at the earliest oppurtunity.  
  Western Conference     Team Projected Wins Comments 1 OKC Thunder  61-63 Probably won't try as hard as last year but they are still ye know really good. 2 Denver Nuggets 54-56 Apparently I am the only person who thinks MPJ is better than Cam Johnson. I still like Denver but not for the reasons a lot of other people seem to. 3 Minnesota Timberwolves 53-55 Floor is very high, ceiling is probably still the conference finals but that is not a bad place to be. 4 Houston Rockets 49-51 They might be really good but they weirdly lack guards, might not matter in the current NBA. 5 LA Clippers 49-51 They are very old, good but very old. 6 Golden State Warriors 48-50 Even older than the clippers, well at least equally old. 7 San Antonio 47-49 How big a leap do they make. This roster still doesn't quite fit together but still they should break into the playoff picture. 8 LA Lakers 44-46 Bit of a transitional year, hard to know. 9 Portland Trail Blazers 42-44 This I think is my hottest take but I think Portland will be genuinely pretty good this year. 10 Dallas Mavericks 35-37 They do not deserve to be good this year and as good as Cooper Flagg is, he is still a rookie. 11 Memphis Grizzlies 32-34 They are already injured and I just think of all the teams in the west, this is the one to fade. 12 New Orleans Pelicans 29-31 Wtf is this team and they traded their first for no reason so they can't even tank if this doesn't work. 13 Phoenix Suns 27-29 Another confusing team who doesn’t control their own pick. There is a sneaky decent roster here but you have to squint to see it. 14 Sacramento Kings 24-26 This roster is so dumb, I do still like Keegan Murray though. 15 Utah Jazz 17-19 Yep still terrible, this season is all about Ace Bailey.

The women are right on the maximum quota limit of 56 but the men are still two over at 58. Unfortunately, we've lost Germany, Taiwan, and Thailand from the first Stage but Uzbekistan is now in position to get a quota. Here's a summary of all the quota changes below:
 
Men's 500m: Great Britain, France, and Uzbekistan all moved their first quotas into qualifying position. The 2nd Korean quota, 2nd Belgium quota and first Hong Kong quota all fell out of qualifing position.
 
Men's 1000m: A big week for the US skaters saw their 2nd and 3rd quotas move up into qualifying position. This came at the expense of Hungary losing their 3rd quota and Turkiye losing their only quota.
 
Men's 1500m: Once again, a big week for the US saw their 3rd quota move up into qualifying position. Turkiye and Ukraine also moved into position to qualify one quota. Latvia lost their 2nd quota and Germany and Taiwan lost their only quotas.
 
Men's 5000m Relay: USA moved into qualifying position, Kazakhstan got bumped out.
 
Women's 500m: France is now in position to qualify an athlete. Korea's 3rd quota also moved up into qualifying position. Meanwhile the 2nd Hungarian quota and the only Czech quota are now on the outside looking in.
 
Women's 1000m: Only one change. The Neutral athlete moved up into qualifying position. Not a good week for Czechia as they lose a quota in yet another discipline.
 
Women's 1500m: Lot of changes here. Canada's 3rd quota, China's 3rd quota, and Hong Kong moved into qualifying positions. Meanwhile, Thailand, the first Ukrainian quota and the 3rd Polish quota fell out of qualifying position.
 
Women's 3000m Relay: USA and Japan moved into the top 8, Hungary and France fell out of the top 8.

After the end of this qualification window, 20 tickets remain. 15 will go to UEFA nations, 3 to CONCACAF nations and 2 from the inter-confederation play-offs. Let's take a look at the status of everyone.
 
UEFA
 
Group A
 is guaranteed to make the second round thanks to its performance from the Nations League, but will look to qualify outright in November. They'll have what should be an easy match against  then facing off against  who grabbed a shocking 2-0 win in their first meeting. Can they repeat that performance again? Before that they'll have to face  who is still in the mix. That match is more critical for Slovakia as Northern Ireland could fall on to its Nations League performance and reach the second round regardless of these results.
 
Group B
 is guaranteed to make the second round and is the big favourite to qualify directly.  is in a good position to make the next round, but their match against  will be critical. A draw is all they need, but a loss gives  the opportunity to steal second place on the final day.  has a chance to finish second in the group, but even if they don't they'll likely qualify to the second round thanks to their Nations League performance.
 
Group C
 and  are guaranteed to make the second round. The direct qualifier will likely be decided on the final day as the two teams face off against each other. Denmark currently has the better goal differential so it'll probably be up to Scotland to push for the win.
 
Group D
 is guaranteed to make the second round thanks to its performance from the Nations League, but would need everything to go against them to make at least top 2 in the group. The match between France and  is very important to decide the group winner. If Ukraine fails to win then their final match against  will decide who makes it to round 2.  is technically alive, but would require everything to go their way, including scoring double digit goals in their last two games to reach the second round.
 
Group E
 is guaranteed to finish top 2 in the group. While they may have to wait until their final match against  to qualify, they are in a very good position. At this point they would have to lose by 6 goals or more to not qualify, assuming they defeat . Georgia still has a chance to make the second round, but needs a lot to go their way.
 
Group F
 is guaranteed to finish top 2 in the group and is the huge favourite to finish top and qualify directly. Second place is more open with  in the driver's seat as they face both  and . If Hungary gets a single win then it forces Ireland/Armenia to get a result against Portugal. Of course, it is entirely possible for Hungary to only get 0 or 1 point in the final two games.
 
Group G
 is guaranteed to finish top 2. Their match against  may qualify them with a win, but even a loss would still put them in a good position thanks to have 13 higher goal differential over Poland. Poland is in a very good position for at least second in the group. They would have to loss both of their final games (which includes Malta) while  would have to defeat Malta and make up the goal differential.
 
Group H
Lots to play for in this group as three nations fight for the top 2.  plays both  and  meaning those two matches will have huge implications on who qualifies. Bosnia likely needs to win both matches to finish first as Austria and Romania have much easier opponents. A single victory will allow them to reach the second round. Despite being in third, Romania will likely make the second round regardless due to the Nations League performance. Speaking of Nations League performances,  has a chance at advancing to the second round if things go their way (including Romania finishing in top 2).
 
Group I
 and  are guaranteed to finish in the top 2. The two face off in the final match, but unless Italy beats by 10 goals the goal differential might be too much. Speaking of Moldova, they also have a chance to advance to the second round via Nations League performance if other results go their way.
 
Group J
is in an excellent position to win the group, all they need is a single victory against the bottom two teams.  is currently guaranteed to make the second round via Nations League performance. They have two remaining matches, including against  on the final day. There's a goal differential, but it's definitely coverable. If Wales does manage to win and move into second place, North Macedonia would then be in a good position to still make the second round via Nations League performance.
 
Group K
 is already qualified to the World Cup. Second place is between  and . Albania has a 1 point advantage which means Serbia needs to get a result against England to have a chance. It might even have to be a victory as goal differential isn't on Serbia's side.
 
Group L
 is guaranteed to finish top 2 and only needs a single point to qualify to the World Cup.  is currently guaranteed to make the second round via Nations League performance, but with Gibraltar as their final opponent, they should finish in second. Should they somehow fail then  would need a result against Croatia to sneak into second.
 
 
CONCACAF
 
Group A
This is a very chaotic group, with all four nations still well alive.  play  for their final two matches. Given 4/8 matches so far were draws, any win would be a massive boost. Due to being slightly behind El Salvador will need to grab at least 1 win and a draw.
 
Group B
 leads the group, but has already faced off against bottom level Bermuda. This likely means they will need to defeat  on the final day, which they failed to do last time.  is also relevant and may make the World Cup directly if they can grab the win over Jamaica.
 
Group C
 leads the group, but may need a result against rivals  to qualify directly to the World Cup.  may make it interesting if they can score the upset against Costa Rica, but would need to have things go their way to win the group.
 
 
Inter-confederation Playoffs
 
So far 2/6 teams have qualified,  (ranked: 77th) and  (ranked: 150th)
The African representative will be between  (ranked: 52nd),  (ranked: 60th),  (ranked: 79th), and  (ranked: 45th)
The Asian representative will be between  (ranked: 58th) and  (ranked: 67th)
CONCACAF will have 2 representatives with 11 nations having a chance to be here.
 
The two highest ranked nations will receive a bye and will get to compete directly for the quota while the other four nations will have to face each other first. New Caledonia will obviously not be getting a bye while Bolivia will either need to greatly improve their ranking or hope Gabon and two low ranked CONCACAF nations qualify to the playoffs. Looking at the CONCACAF options,  (ranked: 29th),  (ranked: 47th),  (ranked: 65th), or  (ranked: 69th) might be seeded should they qualify to the playoffs, while the others would not and we would then likely see Africa and Asia as the two seeded teams.

The total of 60 men and 55 women puts us at 115 athletes which is three over the maximum quota limit. However, I would expect this number to go down by next weekend as skaters start to experience regression to the mean and skaters who put up an outlier performance fall out of qualification position. Lot's of surprising countries in qualifying position here It'll be interesting to see how long countries like Hong Kong, Slovakia, Taiwan and Thailand can hang on. After quick look to history books, this was in fact the 5th  medal from Athletics WCh
and first since 2015 Gold in 50km Race Walk in Beijing.

Counting also the Czechoslovak era this was the 9th medal won by a slovak athlete ever
 
So, yeah, quite a historic achievemnt for us. So proud of Emma, she really deserved this after her season and all what she had to come over last 2 years due injuries
