Road Cycling Qualification to Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympic Games

Recommended Posts

Yeah, it's weird that they haven't updated the Olympic ranking, but they have updated the world ranking (which for this week should be the same)

They removed it because it doesn't make sense anymore...it was only an additional ranking that didn't include results before 22 October 2018. If you read the qualification document they never say "Olympic ranking" but "world ranking by nations as of 22 October 2019".

Well, World ranking will change on Monday, so it would very much make sense to keep the Olympic ranking.

Also, I can spot some inconsistencies in the World rankings. How come Austria is 14th? They were 18th in the latest Olympic rankings. Such rise is suspect at least, as they didn't get any Top 3 result last week.

Maybe not all races counted for Olympic rankings.

But the 22 October version of the ranking will still be there...that's why they released it today instead of Monday. Anyway it's this ranking that counts, no need to wait to see if the Olympic ranking will appear again.

In men, I understand that Luxembourg and Algeria lost their place in time trial to Japan and Iran, ¿or not?

You checked the Olympic ranking, in the previous World Ranking (13/10/2019) they were 17th. Poland was 14th in the last Olympic ranking and now it says it's 15th with +2 positions (indeed, on 13/10 we were 17th).

But from the pure public relations standpoint, it would make sense to keep the Olympic rankings page... And not expect athletes / media / stakeholders / fans to scroll through the World rankings.

This probably caused some confusion all over.

And there's always a possibility that they removed Olympic rankings because they realized it was different from the World rankings, even though it was not supposed to be. :p
