Luiten started with +5 yesterday, had an amazing round today with 7 birdies and no bogeys in the first 14 holes to bring him well inside the cut....only to finish the round with bogey, bogey, bogey and 1 stroke out of the cut

So we have the first majors of the year coming up on the next weeks (Women's ANA Inspiration - old Kraft Nabisco- next week, and men's Masters on the week after), should the discussion be keeped on this thread or should we create a new one for this "big" competitions?

After last update of Olympic Rankings  :MEX Rodolfo Cazaubon is the new entry in 54th place, with :BANSiddikur Rahman dropping out of the top 60.

The Mexican Cazaubon climb 109 place and is now #269 in World Ranking after the Puerto Rico Open, and now Mexico have two eligible players (Carlos Ortiz #57)

The last in Olympic Men's Ranking is now Mardan Mamat :SIN (#353 in World Ranking) with Bangladesh player Rahman now #361 in World ranking (#61 O.R.)

:ITA have only 1 player (at now) Francesco Molinari #34 O.R ; instead in women's ranking we have two eligible players Giulia Sergas #46 O.R. and Giulia Molinaro #53 O.R. (#350 W.R.) but Diana Luna is close to her ( #357 W.R.)

So ANA Inspiration is already on to the final day!

Lexi Thompson is leading the tournament with -10 and will start the last pair with a surprising Ariya Jutanugarn (Thailand), which divides the 2nd position with world number 1 Lydia Ko and with world number 9 Inn Gee Chun (currently out of he olympics, she's the 5th Korean, but that would probably change with a good score on this major), all of them with -9.

Then we have a lot of good players very close to the top, with -8 to -5, so anything can happen today!

A great final day is expected for all Golf fans :d

Lydia Ko is the first major winner on 2016! :champion:

Regarding Olympic qualification, this results means nothing to the winner (she's number one :p), but it brings some changes to the two runner-ups of this major:
Charley Hull - climbs 16 (!!) ranking position and is now the 25th of the world;
In Gee Chun - climbs only one position but overcomes her korean team-mate Amy Yang, which means she's in the top 4 korean AND in the olympic qualifying list

Next stop: Men's Masters!!

 Lydia Ko  becomes the youngest two-time major winner in LPGA history (1st was Evian Championship in September)

Will be a tough battle for the :KOR women, there are 4 tickets (if are in TOP 15) and Korea have 8 athletes, maybe only  Inbee Park (W.Rank #2) has a secure place at now.

:ITADiana Luna overcome Giulia Molinaro.

Korea is really strong in the women's golf, I don't think they will fail on sending a full 4 players team to Rio :)

And besides being the youngest two-time major winner in LPGA, she's the youngest double major winner in Golf (male and female) in 147 years!!! :yikes::yikes: (Previously winner was Young Tom Morris from Scotland, when he won British Open in 1868 and 1869)

The Men's Masters (one of the most important championships and my favorite major) started today!

Jason Day and Jordan Spieth (current champion) are probably the favorites to win, but all the best golfers in the world are playing so anyone can win! :d

    • Officials persons (include Head) of RLF are still in ban. For example, Vaelbe has spoken even more terrible words but, however, CAS obliged to gave them AIN status. • For Modern Pentathlon, it's interesting that Africa only gets one continental championship spot, considering how well Egypt does in the event.  (But then again, it's max 2 athletes per NOC per gender.)  Presuming that an Egyptian wins the African CCh, I suppose their performance in the other major competitions will allow the second competitor to come through.

In this perseverance lies our shared strength, our mission to millions of young people for whom sports are a guiding point and a shining star. I believe in our country, in our strong-spirited guys. I sincerely love and respect our president, Vladimir Putin. He is the best president in the world. May God grant him strength and good health."   Do they deserve neutral status?
    • I did not think it would happen again but... I created similar post for Paris - 2024 https://totallympics.com/forums/topic/27489-ain-athletes-qualification-for-paris-2024-olympic-games-and-reallocation-of-quotas-post1-updated-1507/#comments  I was not sure if that reallocations would really happen but the reality was even more serious than the expectations. According to this research 43% of the neutral statuses issued by the IFs were fake AIN  - https://razom22.com/neutrality-research/  And the figures are based on the IOC decisions - not on the evaluations by Ukrainian NOC or sport ministry. Right now the situation is absolutely unclear. As usually )) Some notes: 1. Russians will not reject quotas for 2026 as they did for 2024 in judo and wrestling. 2. AINERP may be more loyal to russians due to the new member - Watanabe. His federation issued AIN status to Melnikova who took part in the primaries of the russian ruling party, had phots with Z and e .t.c. 3. I do not expect a lot of reallocations becaues of the total small number of the rus/blr athletes in qualification events right now. 4. BUT, even with these small numbers we see that FIS allowed to compete several incompliant persons.        Short notes from the IOC statement before Paris - 2024:   1. IOC`s decisions to reject quotas are final. 2. IOC`s decisions to approve quotas are not final - new facts may lead to the rejection of invitation. 3. IOC`s decisions cannot be appealed - NOCs were not invited to the Games, so it is a good will to invite individual athletes... or not   russians Sports Athlete(s) Discipline Possible Reallocation NOC IOC Decision + IF reallocation if happened Figure skating Adeliia PETROSIAN Women's singles Stefania Yakovleva Confirmed by IOC Figure skating Petr GUMENNIK Men's singles Davide Lewton Brain Confirmed by IOC belorussians     Sports Athlete(s) Discipline Possible Reallocation NOC IOC Decision + IF reallocation if happened Figure skating Viktoriya SAFONOVA Women's singles Stefania Yakovleva Confirmed by IOC
    • I would say they will not be eligible. But it realy abotut the wording every federation has in its papers. World Aquatics changes their policies several times (especially after Mazepin "solved the issues" persoanlly - as witnessed one russian Olympic champion)   Inoirtnat notes on FIS decisions:   FIS points are frozen for ruissns and belorussians - so the situation is not so complicated for a lot of them. The list of the AIN`s is not final as the list from ISU was. It means that persons mau be not only removed from the list but added as well. I expect russians to try some freestyle applications before the stage in China, for example. FIS has not problems with the deny of visa or entris by the host countries. So they kept the possibility to close the doors for the russians for all the countries as ICF did. No sanctions for this, no removing events from the Olympic qualification list, no host changes,   * * * * * Here is the the relevant extract from FIS papers for Aerials tram event. What do you think?
