I know there are fewer medalists, but still, 380k USD for a gold medal, damn.

Not sure about the details for Brazil, but I do know that being a participant in the Olympics will give you a 3000 reais monthly salary for four years, which at the moment is roughly 480 EUR, but that gets less and less every month. Of course being a medalist will greatly increase this, but I don't know to what extent. Plus of course prize money.

Yeah, it's crazy... I just sometimes wish we don't have to give that much and allocate some amount to the development of the sport.

Yep. I'm assuming an Indonesian gold medalist in, say, badminton, would easily be able to live his/her life comfortably with sponsor money?

Badminton players yes, other sports we still don't know (we haven't got one yet ) 

 

Well usually the Olympic medalists regardless of medal colours will also get a position as a civil servant, which enable them to sustain a middle to upper-middle income lifestyle post retirement. However, pre 2016 medalists aren't getting such arrangement and the government is currently trying to find way to 'compensate' the older Olympians.

So, The total amount of rewards for successful Olympians is 291,000 euros, with 50 percent of this amount being paid by the Slovak NOC (SOŠV) and 50 percent through the Ministry of Education, Science, Research and Sports of Slova Republic (MŠVVŠ SR) by the state.

 

In addition, the rewards for the team staff of successful athletes are a maximum of 33 percent of the athletes' rewards which will be divided between the supoort team. For multi-member teams, the amount is calculated from the basic amount per individual, without adding counts for another member.

Yesterday was the award ceremony, with only the Canoe Slalom team missing for obvious reason, the world champs started yesterday.

Speaking of prize money, in sports like golf, tennis and motorsport there are investment companies, which finance a competitor's development years, and later get a share of the professional earnings.

First portion of 2022 sport funding for Lithuanian sport announced as Ministry of Education and Culture announced  numbers of sports funding via central government.

Sport funding in Lithuania have multiple layers from both central and regional government bodies, therefore this is just the first portion of funding.

 

Interestingly enough, it was announced that all official funding for Judo were cut down to 0, due inadequate use of previous funding and arguments within Lithuanian Judo Federation. There were multiple articles surrounding disagreements within Judo community in Lithuania as multiple breakaway Judo federations started to operate in the country. Unfortunately this is only going to hurt the development of this sport even more...

 

Also no funding for Surfing, Skateboarding and inactive Luge, Skeleton and Bobsleigh federations. No funding for squash and floorball as national federations are not a part of Doping testing system. Wushu removed from funding list, might something to do with countries love for China... Loads of weird non-Olympic sports prioritised over Olympic federations.

 

Basketball loosing a lot of funding after failing to qualify for Tokyo, although further stages might increase the funding + all team sports will have additional fund distributed for team sport development (I know, funding system in Lithuania is very convoluted..)
