Paes and Matkowski had a few set points at various stages of the 1st set tie-break which they were unable to convert and eventually went on to lose the tie-break 14-12. If they had won any of those set points the story would have been different :wall:

This article is just jumping the gun...

There are way too many unanswered questions in AIBA's decision (as usual with AIBA). Some of them are below.

Q.1) The article on the official AIBA site ( http://www.aiba.org/blog/historic-aiba-extraordinary-congress-approves-registration-of-non-aiba-professional-boxers-for-all-competitions/) says " The amendment of Article 13 (J) will immediately allow ALL National Federations to register ALL non AIBA professional boxers for the APB/WSB Olympic Qualification Tournament in Vargas, Venezuela on July 3-8 according to the criteria for registration of pro boxers. The competition will offer 26 quota places available for Rio 2016" - Does that mean that even countries who have already qualified for Rio can send pro boxers to the APB/WSB qualifier ???

Q.2) In boxing, quota belongs to athlete and not country. So, will we have a situation where if a country has an amateur qualifier and then also sends a pro to the WSB/APB qualifier who also qualifies, then country chooses who goes to Rio ?? This was the situation with women - where countries could send different boxers to world champs and continental qualifiers and if both qualified, country would choose who goes to Rio.

Q.3) It seems like only amateur (plus WSB/APB) boxers are allowed for the World Qualifier in June, whereas pros + WSB/APB are allowed for the qualifiers in July. Does that mean that Indian boxers, if they fail to qualify in June, can take a token pro fight in Jun end, turn pro and then also compete in the WSB/APB qualifier ??

If anybody has official sources answering the above questions, please post on this forum as it will have a lot of implications for qualification.

The way I see it, from an Indian persepective, Vikas will be competing in the Jun qualifier. If he qualifies, Vijender is done. If he doesn't then there might be a trial between Vikas and Vijender to compete in APB/WSB event, if Vijender wants. Though don't think Vijender will be too interested. With due respect to him, have always felt that Vijender turned pro so close to the olympics because he saw the writing on the wall that Vikas is better.

Tomorrow at the French Open:

Mixed Doubles Quarterfinals

Paes/Hingis vs (5) Soares/Vesnina (Court 1)

Sania/Dodig (2) vs (7) Mirnyi/Chan (Court 2)

Both matches are 2nd matches on the respective courts and should start slightly after 3.30pm IST provided there is no rain.

Semi-finals are also scheduled tomorrow later in the day. Hoping the Indian challenge does not end tomorrow and in fact we have 2 teams in the finals! :)

    • now the shooting sport takes a little Christmas break and the new season resumes in January with the Asian Championships for the Shotgun specialists ( Doha, Jan. 11th through 22nd)   the World Cup will be back in late March, beginning in  Tangiers (March 25th through April 3rd, Shotgun specialists only)   the Rifle and Pistol specialists will start their new season with the European 10m Championships in  Yerevan (Feb. 27th through March 5th) and the 1st World Cup stage for them will be in  Granada in April (5th through 13th)   300m, 25m and 50m European Champs will be in  Osijek (May 30th through June 21st), meanwhile the Shotgun European Champs will be held in  Athens from Sept. 27th through Oct. 13th

    • so, the 2025 season is officially over, after the World Cup Finals have been completed with the Shotgun events, where (once again!!!) a new format for the final stage of each event has been experimented for the first time (before it becomes a regular feature in the next season)   the new format enlarge the starting field in each event's final stage to 8 shooters and dramatically shortens the number of target shots to decide the placings   the only characteristic remaining is the progressive eliminations principle   now, as written above, 8 shooters make the final, where after only 12 targets the eliminations start: by then, the last 2 shooters must leave the competition (7th and 8th ranked)   after 12 more targets (24 in total), 2 more shooters have to leave the final (5th and 6th ranked)   then, the crazy carousel starts: every 4 targets we have a new elimination  so, after 28 targets, the 4th ranked shooter is done; after 32 targets the bronze medallist is known and after only 36 targets (provided there's no need for a shoot-off), compared to the previous 60, the gold and silver medallists are crowned   I guess the tiktok people with the attention span of a chinchilla have won once again
