So what are the events this week with Indian participation?

1. Surely a huge week in tennis as we move into the business end of the French Open. Also ranks for olympic qualifying freeze after the tournament.

2. Indonesia Open where Saina, Sameer Verma and the doubles teams would be participating.

What else?

Athletics

After a successful outing in the Taiwan Open last week, where Dutee Chand bagged two golds, helping India to a total of 9 medals, the Indian athletes will now compete in Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan, with an opportunity to make the cut for the Olympic Games in Rio later this year.

“They will go to Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan in June,” said C.K.Valson, the AFI secretary, to The Hindu. The meet is expected to start on June 18.

Long and triple jumper Mayookha Johny, who suffered an ankle injury in the Federation Cup, is recovering well and she has gained entry for meets in Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. “Mayookha is recovering from her injury. She is under treatment in Delhi and she should be back soon. The jumps coach says that she is almost fit.”

Shooting

Rio Test Event unwanted incidents

The test event in Rio served some wake up calls for the country’s shooters. Skeet shooter Mairaj Khan and London Olympics bronze medallist Gagan Narang both suffered setbacks. While Mairaj didn’t have enough pellets with him to last the entire final, Narang suffered ammunition failure, which resulted in him shooting a score of ‘0’ in the prone event. at the end of the gold medal match, he and his Swedish opponent were tied at 14 targets each, leading to a shoot off. Since Mairaj had run out of ammunition, he lost after the first target in the shoot off and had to settle for silver. Rules don’t permit a shooter to get additional ammunition during a match.

    • I'll post significant changes periodically. I'll start with the recently added/updated documents.   Archery The addition of mixed compound (12M & 12W) forced a reduction on the recurve side. The mixed compound quotas are distributed as follows   Host - 1 World Championships - 3 Continental Games - 5 World Ranking List - 2 Final Qualifier - 1   To compensate the team events will now only have 8 nations. 2 quotas were removed from the World Ranking List and 2 were removed from the Final Qualifier.   Individual recurve and mixed recurve distribution is the same
    • In Rome, it would be useful to roof the swimming pool complex at Foro Italico, possibly with the option of retracting the roof and covering the tennis court complex. Overall, there's a lot to do, for example, compared to Budapest, but unfortunately, this is Italy How many years has Roma been building their new stadium, and they keep pushing back the completion date- now I read it's 2030? and it should be ready. The same goes for Milan- there should be a modern complex of indoor swimming pools with 50 meters pools, etc., but there's a problem with one stupid football stadium, which will only be built after an ultimatum from UEFA

    • impossible, there are not enough venues in both towns and I mean, Milan doesn't have an Olympic Stadium, a decent Tennis Complex and a big Swimming Complex (not to mention the sea) Rome, on the other hand, doesn't have a Rowing/Canoeing Basin nor arenas and stadiums for the team sports beyond football and rugby there's no chance that all those venues would be built from scratch, meanwhile if we use both cities we already have almost everything we need, especially the most expensive and controversial sites

She wasn’t a top-tier athlete in that program anymore. She was at the end of her career. I would personally would rather race against Katie. She’s not as competitive as the other athletes,” he said. “It’s probably really unfair to say and not really where I want to go with this but that’s where we are with that.”   Uhlaender: “If I were Canada, I would be concerned in how this coach is representing the Olympic values for his country,” Uhlaender told Fox News Digital. “He hurt a whole field of athletes, all with dreams, and this sends the message that they don’t matter unless they are number one. All athletes matter, and we all deserve to compete fairly, with integrity, and respect. He did not respect anyone in that field. “This is not about my resume or how good the athletes were in the race. This is about the fact that he intentionally manipulated the competition to hurt myself and 13 other countries because he felt it necessary to eliminate all possibility. That is against the spirit of sport and not what the Olympic movement represents.”   Isn't it great when other people's dirty laundry is aired?  /sarcasm     (I was a little surprised to see NPR pick this up, but per this article, Uhlaender preemptively recorded the phone call after receiving a text from Cecchini that said he had 'bad news' for her.)
