By the way, just to be clear, we are all seeing it correct, right? In the rare case Brazil manages to sneak in 30th, they do actually get an extra ticket (so two total), correct? I'm all the time wondering if we're not seeing this wrong.

Technically yes...

But, there is always a but. For one thing, it is certainly weird how some of the borderline nations simply choose to skip events. Are they ignorant or what? Other thing, it is bizarre how simply entering multiple athletes, or sending them to World Cups, can give you so, so much more points irregardless of the skier's level of competitiveness. Why didn't Brazil spam points like Thailand or Serbia?

So, there is always a possibility that FIS is not really sure about it themselves... And in that case, nobody can tell what happens. There are manyer examples of IFs interpretating their own rules in curious ways...

Imagine this producing a boy, who then ends up in a relationship with the daughter of Bjoerndalen and Domracheva and they have a child together. Mutant alert :yikes:

Would be like a lab experiment with all the crazy substances influencing their genetic material. I always hope that people like that at least have the decency not to have children.

After first reading the qualification procedure, I would agree. I think the main indicator for your interpretation to be true is the word "remaining" in section D.3 of the qualification pathway.

Definitely true. Then again, not sure if that is more bizarre then for example someone who wins a FIS race in Lebanon against four women who are 10 minutes behind on 5km getting easy 140 points and so a 'better' result than athletes who compete in good races in Norway and finish halfway up the field.

I'm sure that in some dictator-like country there would be major potential in creating a breeding program like thing with athletes instead of horses. :p

When it comes to the reallocation, yes. When it comes to the top-30, I read it as in that case they'd get one ticket via D.1 (done by Jaque Mourao at the world championships) and one ticket via D.2 (which would be done by a 30th place in the ranking). Not like D.2 only says the total they'd get, but it's one ticket from D.1 and one from D.2 (if all works out, of course).

FIS can be tricked so easily. You just need the same five skiers contesting interval races again and again, while trying to keep time differences between themselves to a minimum.

Eventually their FIS points could come as close to 0.00 as you'd like...

Good to know, that would mean, we could have more exciting races in the foreseeable future. My statement wasn't directed against Johaug personally, it's just the hope for mass start races which are not decided after 3 minutes :) though I don't like her either since her doping ban, she's cleary the best - by far, no question about that, but that's exactly the problem I'm talking about ;)

How would her absence make races much more exciting? It would still be a complete dominance by Norway and Sweden (kind of like Ethiopia/Kenya in long distance running), unless of course someone like Fossesholm develops into another Johaug and completely dominates. Maybe one day we will see Norwegian/Swedish athletes changing nationality if they can’t make the team, at least it would mean that more countries can compete for medals. Swedish/Norwegian athletes are far better off than Kenyan/Ethiopian athletes + the nations that could buy them don’t care about winter sports. Maybe Qatar will host Winter Olympics one day and then they will buy a bunch of Norwegian/Swedish athletes ...

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
