Interesting though, I wonder if it's an American thing. Commentators here, both male and female, luckily never talk about clothing in particular (unless it's the annual "oh yeah brand X has a new model of T-shirt that 500 players are now using") and also don't really mention race, even in the cases where American media would go all "first African-American to do X"  Age is mentioned basically only if there are interesting records in play.

 

It's probably 95% American and British commentators, these studies barely have any reach.

Sure, but when trying to make things equal, one of the first things - if not the first thing - might be to make the matches, races or games of equal (potential) length. Just like in athletics the 1500m is (rightfully, of course) not considered 'too far' for women anymore and both men and women run the 10k, or the marathon.

Yeah, that must be an American thing only. Polish commentators never talk about brand of clothing or skin color during women's tennis matches   They did talk about Radwanska because for years she didn't sign a clothing deal and had to wear those WTA stickers which sometimes flew off.

 

Yep, the 5 set games come up in equal pay conversation. Victoria Azarenka made a fool out of herself last year by suggesting men should play 3 sets at Grand Slam.

 

Roland Garros has said only men matches will be featured in this year's night sessions since they want to crank up revenue numbers. Everyone knows ATP matches gather significantly bigger interest than WTA's. When you're chasing financial revenue in pandemic even France ditches the "equality" thing.

Looks like Clara Tauson's run of success has finally drained her physically and she retired in Charleston QF. Which means Maria Camila Osorio Serrano is into SF and continues on her own hot streak!

He is quite competitive this year and his attactive playing is attractive for spectators. He just need to be a little more smart to save some strength. He is my new like this year though Nadal is still no.1 for me.
