This is how Bandy hockey got its start.  Obviously it is an old game with lots of variations all over the world, but the existing rules were written in this English microclimate by people who played on flat, frozen fields.

 

Dozens of skaters - including an international competitor - have flocked to The Fens from far and wide after word got out that flooded fields had frozen over.

 

Competitive skating began in the watery landscape in 1879 and since then it has become a magnet for lovers of "natural ice".

The men's tournament still hasn't had a single game without a goal difference of 10 or more in favor of the winner.

The women's tournament has also started.

The smallest goal difference in a single game in the men's tournament is +6 now. For women's it's still +3.

The final day of the preliminary rounds featured several interesting games.

 

The Netherlands played a tense match against the United States for the last semifinal spot.

 

The score was tied 5-5 until the 84th minute.

 

Finland scored the winning goal in the 86th minute against Sweden.
