World Floorball championships

Semifinals

Sweden - Switzerland  7-2

Finland - Czech Republic  4-3

5th-8th Semifinals

Denmark - Estonia  6-5 after OT

Norway - Germany  6-5 after OT

9th Place Match

Slovakia - Latvia  6-5 after OT.....so 9th place is the best ever result for our mens NT in the men´s world Championships history. unfortunately the WCH are unsuccesful for us, since we failed to qualify for the World Games.  If CZE will win tomorrow the bronze medal match against SUI they will qualify directly as one of the top 3 spots and Germany will win the Poland neighbors spot, if SUI will win so CZE will qualify via POL neighbors spot.

maybe yes :d

6 nations will play the World Games tournament. Top 3 (all medalist) of the Riga World Championships 2016, 1 host quota, 1 best non-european team in top 12 of the 2016 world championships, and 1 best ranked Poland neighbor.

so 3 medalists (SWE, FIN and one of CZE/SUI) 1 host quota (POL) 1 best non european in top 12 WCH 2016 (USA) and 1 best ranked Poland Neighbor (CZE if not in top 3/GER if CZE will be in top 3) hope it´s more understandable, now :d

2 sure gold medals for Sweden and a good shot at qualification for Denmark you meant :d

I think it´s a question of time, when floorball will do it. It´s one of the most quickly developing and young people atracting sport ever ;)

btw tomorrow :DEN vs :SVK for 1st and 2nd place in group C and for a better opponent in the play-offs. it´s going for a tough match.  congrats for the qualification for the play-offs btw :)

So much for that sure gold medal ;)

Let's start a discussion about this sport. I know that floor is currenly being ruled by 2 countries, Sweden and Finland, i would love to know if there's floorball played in your country?

Finland won the recent WC title, beating Sweden 4-3 in a shootout :champion:

    • North American rugby quotas ( and qualified automatically)    M: and W: and
    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
