Zhao Xintong is only an amateur because of his ban which means he had no official ranking (it will change next week ). In fact he's well on his way to make the final after dominating the second SF session vs O'Sullivan.

First session of the final is over and Zhao Xintong leads Mark Williams 7-1

Better play from Williams in the second session but he trails 6-11 after day one.

Zhao Xintong wins the world title 18-12 over Mark Williams in the final. While only an amateur on paper he is the third qualifier after Terry Griffiths (1979) and Shaun Murphy (2005) who becomes world champion in the Crucible era. Also the first snooker world champion from Asia.

New season is underway and Ronnie O'Sullivan made TWO maximum breaks in the Saudi Masters SF vs Chris Wakelin. That's the first time a player makes two maxes in the same match on the same day (Jackson Page made two in WCh quals last season but these came on back-to-back days).
