James Magnussen isn't going to the world champs in July 2017 because he will focus on the Commonwealth Games in April 2018

This is such an annoying thing in swimming, athletes/coaches acting like peaking twice in one calendar year is insanely impossible.

Have you tried peaking twice a year yourself? :p

I haven't, but athletes in a lot of sports have and succesfully did so (like countries that have Olympic trials 2-3 months or less before the Olympics). If the Commonwealth Games were in September or October 2017, ok, I get it. But come on, get real. Not going to WCh in July 2017 because of an event in April 2018 is too much.

Does he even have to peak for the CW Games. :d It's not like there is that much competition there. Also there are 8 months between those events... It's absurd to imagine that he can't be ready for both to swim a few lanes. For me it seems an excuse, when Chalmers whips his ass before the Worlds.

(I do agree about the rest of course, come on, 8 months to prepare isn't enough? I don't buy that)

Maybe he wants to have a life outside of swimming. :d

After all, that is only James Magnussen, not really the top swimmer at the moment. :p

    • That’s good news. There’s been no mention of the team in the local papers at all. If they go, I think they’ll be the first Philippine athletes to represent the country in a team event at the World Games.
    • No, Lake Placid won the bid to be the back-up host over St Moritz and Igls. I don’t believe any other track expressed interest.
    • Assuming there’s streaming, I think I’ll be watching the Asian Winter Games and the World Games
    • With the 2024 Bolivarian Games done and dusted, I thought it'd be a good time to look at next year's slate of international multi-sport games. • That's basically the worst way you could call pictograms. Who cares about (solid) okay pictograms ? They will be forgotten the day after.
    • already snagged one of The World Games 2025 quota places @PHI2019: https://floorball.sport/2024/12/10/philippines-qualify-for-the-world-games-2025/
    • and of course we can still go for some more shopping in the AHL and the main European Leagues (where a few good players with Italian heritage play)...
    • looking at Today's NHL Rosters, this is a list of player that surely would be eligible to play for  (even if many of them have already played at the World Champs/Olympics for  /  in the past, sometime recent past)   Forwards   Adam Fantilli (Columbus) Kyle Palmieri (NY Islanders) Noel Acciari (Pittsburgh) Philip Tomasino (Pittsburgh) Andrew Mangiapane (Washington) Sonny Milano (Washington) Joe Veleno (Detroit) Michael Pezzetta (Montreal) Michael Amadio (Ottawa) Anthony Cirelli (Tampa Bay) Max Domi (Toronto) Max Pacioretty (Toronto) Tyler Bertuzzi (Chicago) Ryan Donato (Chicago) Nick Foligno (Chicago) Matt Boldy (Minnesota) Marcus Foligno (Minnesota) Luke Evangelista (Nashville) Michael Carcone (Utah) Matias Maccelli (Utah) Alex Iafallo (Winnipeg) Cole Perfetti (Winnipeg) Gabriel Vilardi (Winnipeg) Robby Fabbri (Anaheim) Frank Vatrano (Anaheim) Troy Terry (Anaheim) ???
