Quotas for boys' Hockey5s from Europe go to :POL Poland and :FRA France.

I think that it isn't official yet. How it will workf if :POL or :FRA will win quota in women's tournament too?

Austria and Poland got the quota in women's hockey 5s. But I'm a bit confused... where are Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, etc? no interest in youth olympics?? :dunno:

By the way, quotas for beach handball were decided after the U17 world championships few weeks ago:

Men - :ESP:ITA:RUS:VEN:PAR:TPE:THA:MRI:AUS

Women - :HUN:NED:POR:ARG:VEN:PAR:THA:CHN:MRI:ASA

We have already decided for our women's team to participate, so our men's quota will be reallocated.

The FINA points thing for Youth Olympic qualification is a bit confusing does anyone know how it is officially done? Currently I have added up the points earned at the latest stage for each athlete (Finals > Semis > Prelims) including giving 0 to athletes which were disqualified (currently this does not change who qualifies). Anyway here is the top 30 at the halfway point.

1. :USA – 28860

2. :CHN – 27128

3. :RUS – 22251

4. :AUS – 21268

5. :HUN – 20240

6. :CAN – 17480

7. :ITA – 16963

8. :GBR – 15391

9. :JPN – 15230

10. :BRA – 11769

11. :POL – 11334

12. :NED – 10298

13. :ESP – 10246

14. :GRE – 9869

15. :CZE – 8979

16. :GER – 8490

17. :KOR – 8459

18. :EGY – 8326

19. :RSA – 8195

20. :ISR – 8124

21. :SWE – 7962

22. :LTU – 7725

23. :DEN – 7597

24. :SLO – 7377

25. :NZL – 6850

26. :HKG – 6118

27. :SUI – 5868

28. :FIN – 5853

29. :POR – 5713

30. :VEN – 5709

Unsurprisingly the larger teams have more points. This is apparent with France whom doesn’t even make the top 30 because they only sent 9 swimmers. Remember all continents must be represented which means Egypt or South Africa will replace the 16th place team should they fail to reach that ranking. Also apparently the mixed relays don’t give FINA points.

From which events are these points? Surely the FINA world champs don't give points towards qualifying for a Youth Olympics which has basically nothing to do with it? Or has FINA gone mad(der)?

They use the results from the senior world champs to decide which nations get 4 men and 4 women quotas, all other nations  can get a maximum of 2 men and 2 women (of course all individual swimmers must reach the qualifying times)

Thanks, that's quite odd.

By my count here are the FINA points ranking, the top 16 will be allowed to send 4 male and 4 female swimmers to the Youth Olympics. The points were calculated by adding up all of the results of each swimmer at the latest stage of an event (finals > semis > prelims)

1. :USA - 68004

2. :CHN - 58998

3. :AUS - 51642

4. :HUN - 49912

5. :RUS - 48253

6. :CAN - 40188

7. :ITA - 39789

8. :JPN - 39496

9. :GBR - 39417

10. :POL - 29246

11. :BRA - 26804

12. :NED - 22780

13. :CZE - 22062

14. :RSA - 21747

15. :GRE - 21591

16. :GER - 20814

17. :NZL - 20288

18. :KOR - 20046

19. :EGY - 19979

20. :SWE - 19658

21. :ISR - 19626

22. :DEN - 19619

23. :ESP - 18864

24. :MEX - 17283

25. :LTU - 16948

26. :FIN - 15919

27. :BLR - 15457

28. :VEN - 15034

29. :POR - 14687

30. :FRA - 13975

Overall there wasn't a lot of movement in the second half among the top nations. South Africa was able to move into the Top 16 meaning it won't take a continental spot meaning Germany will qualify. Spain had a terrible second half and drops out of the top 16. New Zealand on the other hand had a great second half, but just missed breaking into the top 16. Mexico, Belarus and France entered the top 30 while Switzerland, Hong Kong and Slovenia drop out.
