Summer Paralympic Games 2016 Official Thread

Not necessarily. Many countries are only just beginning to take an interest in Paralympic sports, so that we are going to see surges in performance as they identify athletes and invest in them for the first time. It's one of the reasons we see so many world records as the pool of talent grows from a relatively small base at each successive Games.

I'm surprised to see Japan doesn't seem to have that interest in Paralympic sports.

I agree. Even leaving aside the fact that they are the next hosts, my impression is that Japan is a country with a strong record on disability issues. My guess is that 2020 will lead to a change of attitude if not before then after the experience of hosting the Games.

Malaysia was amazing with 2 golds. Sadly we don't have Malaysian members here

Meanwhile another hope of Indonesian medal was lost after David Jacobs (table tennis) crashed out in the 1st knock out round :(

Wow, missed the athletics as I was watching the rowing. Shocked to see Fearnley and in particular Hug beaten.  :woot:

    • I will do my best to organise a pairs competition also involving nations from the 4 teams that are eliminated in the first half of the team competition along with the lowest ranked individual nations at the halfway point (end of session 2) to form 8 pairs. Pairs will be balanced so that the highest ranked nation in the competition will be paired with the lowest ranked nation, second highest with the second lowest and so on. All of that will be based on the individual ranking at the halfway point.   This way every nation will have at least interest in some event until the end of the 3rd session.   I will probably base it closely on @mrv86‘s proposed rules, and have sprints every 3 rounds of votes. The pairs with most medals from those 3 rounds get the points along with an extra bonus for medal and points doubles.   I do only have 1 day to organise this now so I can’t promise anything though.
