Milano Cortina 2026 - Team USA - Ski Jumping

Recommended Posts

Team USA 2026

Women - Annika Belshaw, Josie Johnson, Paige Jones

Men - Kevin Bickner, Jason Colby, Tate Frantz

History

The only USA medal came the first time ski jumping was contested at the first Winter Olympics, back in 1924 Chamonix.  It was a bronze, and interestingly enough, he wasn't awarded the medal until 50 years later when an error in calculations was discovered.  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ski_jumping_at_the_1924_Winter_Olympics#Results

Based on last year's World Cup (zero medals), it doesn't seem like we have a lot of hope for the podium this year.

Got the roster updated...Jason Colby was starting to pick up steam in the WC...can he somehow fly to victory? (I mean, doubtful...but it can happen...)

We've had some decent results these games...some promising rising stars, I think!

Yeah I feel like we slightly improved over this cycle. Maybe we can fight for some medals at Utah 2034?

Final thoughts...

We ended up 8th in the Men's Team and 7th in the Mixed Team.  Let's just keep building slowly but surely!

Yup. Definitely feel like we've improved. Maybe the partnership with Norway has helped? Looking forward to seeing how we do in 2030.

    • Also it being illegal in France means the IOC will have to test everyone pre arriving at 2030 and can’t wait till they arrive at the Games to do so. I’m sure at 2028 for some sports testing will happen on site if it’s not a rule of its governing body for non Olympic events. So far only a few sports like Athletics and Boxing have that rule - I suspect others will adopt it but others might take time.
    • https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/olympics/articles/cpwj78lxypro ‘In France - one of a number of countries where genetic testing is illegal without a medical prescription due to privacy laws - the government has condemned the decision as "a step backwards". "It defines the female sex without taking into account the biological specificities of intersex individuals, whose sexual characteristics present natural variations, leading to a reductive and potentially stigmatising approach," claimed French Sports Minister Marina Ferrari.”   ‘A group of legal experts in human rights and sports have since expressed, external"urgent concern" about what they called "the regressive move toward genetic testing as a precondition of participation in women's sport" which they say "violate domestic and international laws that protect human rights and regulate the use of genetic testing and genetic information".  The group has called on athletes "to challenge the national or regional implementation of mandatory genetic sex testing, demanded by the IOC or international federations, before domestic courts, by invoking national or regional laws protecting human rights, prohibiting anti-discrimination, and regulating the use of genetic testing and genetic data".’   Domestic laws are more challenging for the IOC to deal with than CAS. Things could get complicated for a bit.
    • Except NOC’s and governing bodies have to still follow local laws. Particularly for Under 18’s there could certainly be domestic legal issues regarding associations paying for travel to other counties to circumvent a domestic ban. Child protection services don’t always act reasonable to attempts to break a domestic law.
