Another lacklustre performance by the Italian women in the slalom. I wonder if the coaches will call up the young prospect Giada D'Antonio for some WC starts this season. There seems to be a lot of hype for her and also the marketability will probably be there, as she isn't the typical skier.

no, it won't happen

but she will start in some of the Europa Cup slalom races from next week (surely all those held in Italy, where we have double the number of allowed skiers)

Point for me i reckon :p 16 year old D'Antonio is set to make her WC debut in tomorrows slalom, without having a single Europa Cup race.

Mikaela Shiffrin :USA off the podium today (Edit: Oops...I thought this was slalom, not Giant Slalom.).  Nina Astner :AUT entered the 2nd run in 30th place, but had the best second run, jumping up 18 places to 12th.

It sad to see this season, as I remember, that Fede last year was winning everywhere, when she competed and finished and now we haven't even managed a single podium in the giant slalom, and it'll probably stay that way until the end of the season. Without Fede and Bassino, unfortunately, we're out of good cards in this event. For me Goggia should probably skip the giant slalom at all, becouse she has no chance of a podium and she risks further injuries. If even Goggia finish 8th or 10th? What difference does it make? If she couldn't get a podium finish today with so many DNFs at the top skiers, she probably never do. Della Mea is OK this year, but let's be honest, she's not World Cup podium material. Overall, it's a sad picture, and we have a 0% chance of anything in Cortina unless a miracle happens in Brignone return.

We have two chances for Goggia in DH and SG + maybe a dark horse in Pirovano/Curtoni in SG. That's all. In technical events, we have a 0% chance for medal and that's sad. Our federation also lost Colturi in this situation... In any normal country, the head of such a federation should be dismissed for disciplinary reasons and this case should be investigated by the minister, or even the prime minister, but not in Italy...

I won't write about injuries (Fede) and non-sporting matters (Colturi), but the fact is that Italy has its worst start to the season in alpine skiing in over 10 years... Just one victory, and podiums- if any, they're mostly 3 places. We're also not leading in any of the season standings, no in the women's or men's categories. This isn't be it should be in an Olympic year in your country, where you're having your worst season in many years.

yeah, just like Anna Trocker earlier Today

I think this is the best way to blow them

they're not ready for the world cup stage yet, but we're so bad right now that our coaches are digging deep

In last year, we were were happy with Brignone's wins, and today we're excite that della Mea is in the top 10... It's hard to imagine a bigger fall... And Goggia should give up on the giant slalom and focus on the speed events – Vonn isn't wasting time on the giant slalom, but is training for downhill and SG. Goggia last one finished on the podium in the giant slalom in march 2018, and she has no any chance of winning an Olympic medal at the regular competition. It's a waste of time and energy to finish 8th or 9th and risk injury. And we have to accept that without Brignone, we have no chance of winning a medal in the giant slalom in Cortina, and that's it.

    • In my opinion, the maximum period in power should be 8 years. Next to, it's already too long, especially since Hungary's economy is much weaker than earlier. Just as Italy has too many changes of government, Orbán's 16 years in power is definitely too long for me. Perhaps only Erdogan and Putin have ruled in Europe longer, but those are semi-dictatorships.    In the USA, just about two weeks before the election, bookmakers were betting heavily on Trump, from what I remember good. They were more wrong in 2016 with Trump and Clinton – then, Clinton was expected to win clearly until the very end.
    • Fraud hopefully not, it's true that everyone says it will be like 50-50% as far as the winner is concerned. Hopefully the moron (ov) loses but honestly don't know what will happen.  My main concern is that it was said about the 2024 US election that it will be very close and then what happened... (I mean hopefully these opinion polls are more reliable than the American ones)
    • According to our bookmakers, Orban could lose after so long time, but I've read that there may be electoral fraud. What do you think?
    • Good to know there will be a women's hockey wch in Budapest this year. Admittedly I was out of the loop for many sports recently (only followed the winter sports world cup circuit prior to the Olympics and not everything from there even) According to Wikipedia the first day of the competition will be Election Day (12 April) Hopefully this will not be a bad omen for any of the teams involved....
