Whats your opinion on number of athletes limit in wheightlifting? i imagine how it would be if FINA stated that each country will have only 1 quota in specific number of events e.g. 20 from 35

it's necessary because there are very few events and there's a high risk of having a one-Nation sport (it's the same in taekwondo, even if I think that now there's no chance to see a Korean-only medal table in such case)

it should be applied also in table tennis and diving, given there's no competition for the Chinese athletes

in swimming and athletics there are so many events that there's always place for many Countries to win (also) gold medals, so it's not necessary imho

and what about 5x5 basketball? :d at the same logic USA should be able to fill only 1 team in 2 events...

team sports are different

however, I'm not saying that's good, but tbh to me it's about giving sense to a sport being "global" (and being at the Olympics) or just being a one place affair and living by itself (like the American Football, for instance...there would be no reason to make it an Olympic sport...oh, well, they actually did it )

right now, table tennis, diving and weightlifting (at least among the women) have a problem of competitiveness and have to find a way to compensate that

Yes, it's something that must be considered, the philosophy of the Olympics, as it were.  The Olympics isn't necessarily a collection of only the best athletes in each discipline.  It's a collection of many/most of the best athletes, with other athletes present, helping to promote the event as a broader, global event.  If you want to see 'only' the best athletes (or closer to that mark), then watch the World Cups or other events throughout the year(s) (like the Grand Smashes, etc. for Table Tennis).

What is going on with China especially on the women’s side, not a single medal? And Is North Korea doping, how are they able to destroy the competition on the women’s side so easily?

I don't like assumptions, but I don't trust North Korea because they could pull these athletes from competition and escape authorities a long time due to COVID issues, which is a good time to actually dope. Especially if they look this strong.

How was North Korea even able to compete then given the flaws with the testing

Perhaps we could consider, like what happens in handball, allowing non-European countries to compete in the Olympics. This won't have much of an impact, because the best team in the world will still be there.

Now, from the perspective of weightlifting, imagine being the best in the world at the sport, but not having the right to participate in the Olympics "just" because your country is very strong in the sport.

I mean we do have athlete limits per event (whether it's 1, 2 , or 3) and I'm fine with that. We don't need to see 30 table tennis players from China or 50 marathon runners from Kenya competing, even if they are the best.

I do agree that an athlete should not be prevented from competing because someone else is competing in a different event.

10 athletes per event makes continental quotas a bit more difficult. In a perfect world, I'd like to see the top 10 qualify, 5 continental quotas and then a host/tripartite quota for a total of 16 per event.

Olivia Reeves :USA gold medal in 77kg W, including a WR in both S and C&J.  She was so confident!  We also had Mattie Rogers in the same competition, winning a bronze in C&J, just 1 kg away from a bronze overall.  Mattie has now won a medal at 6 different WCh!  Go Team :USA!
