Hampton Morris tried to break his WR in the C&J, but he failed...but still ended with a bronze in C&J and overall.  Go :USA! :)  (He was bronze in Paris, too.)

Based on current categories...

M65 - M71 (+6) - M79 (+8) - M94 (+15) - M110 (+16) - M+110

(erase 60.88)

W53 - W58 (+5) - W63(+5) - W69 (+6) - W86 (17) - W+86

(erase 48, 77)

Would be reasonable.

M

Tokyo 61 67 73 81 96 109
Paris 61   73   89 102
LA 65   71 79 94 110

W

Tokyo 49 55 59 64 76 87
Paris 49   59   71 81
LA   53 58 63 69 86

In men, 88kg was irregular, as 88 and 94 were only 6kg different.  Comparing with 2024 olympic, adding 79kg and moving nearby groups (73 to 71,  89 to 94) are expected.

In women above 65kg~ . The record do not changes much. In 2024 Wch, Ri suk (64kg) recorded 264, Reeves (71kg) 267 .. but in 81kg, Liao guifang was 278 and 87 in 272... only 13 different in 64~87 all around.

In olympic

81 1~4th ; 275/268/267/262

71 1~4th ; 262/257/256/246

.. So, no need for dividing 7x and 8x kg that much.

Also, I think the lowest groups would be also thrown away... because USA would not show much interest in battle between china and PRK...

Nope. Last month, IOC approved 2 additional categories

 https://iwf.sport/2025/09/19/ioc-approves-two-additional-bodyweight-categories-for-la2028/

10 categories x 12 players --> 12 categories x 10 players
