Rifda Irfanaluthfi is the only Indonesian gymnast who I know in the past decade that has the capability and has won the gold medal at the sea games as well as winning a silver at the 2018 Asian Games. It's unfortunate by the time she qualified for the 2024 Olympics, her body has been beaten up by injuries and did not perform well at Paris.

Yeah it's very unfortunate about Rifda.

Even forming a team for this championships is also a drama. 19 yo Naufal Takdir passed away due to training accident, Fajar Rohman injured and had to be replaced by Joseph Hatoguan (2023 SEA Games bronze in floor) who is just cleared to compete after he got diagnosed with cancer

Seems like we're cursed.

If only Caio had at least a decent PH. But it's hard to have any more ambition when you get an 11 in this rotation. Still, it's nice to see two Brazilians in the top 10 in the qualifiers.

I did not watch see the routine but supposed it was some kind of fall for 11.

By the way, I remember that Ukrainian coach Oleg Ostapenko worked as a head coach of Brazilian women team - as one of the first foreign specialist. What was his reputation in Brazil? Or he is forgotten by now?

Well, he was one of those responsible for the transformation of our women's gymnastics; those who have followed this sport for a long time always give him due credit. But it's not something I see in the media, for example, because the one who was directly involved in the results (Iryna in this case) is usually praised, not the one who initiated the process.

Thank you for the answer.

These days it is good enough not to be mentioned. Beacause a lot of old school coaches were accused by their athletes later and a lot of dirty stories revealed.

Nice to here that Ostapenko was not among them.

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
