If they based it on actual points, then :USA would absolutely win (at least, I think)...the point differential between :JPN and :USA in ice dance is huge, as is Malinin's potential total score.

Again, my dislike of the format is not due to the results this year (or any other year, I still vocally disliked the format in 2018 :P )

Japan should, in fact, not be competitive at all given how weak their ice dance team is.

Fun fact and mildly related: at the opening ceremony there were at least 10 Italian flagbearers (as in, Italian citizens grew up in Italy).

Fun fact we know about Conyedo, Antropova, Diaz, Chamizo. But yeah in figure skating this is crazy. Georgia was easy road to Russians who wanted practise this sport. They gave them a chance.  They have better athletes than my country unfortunately. We are not good with naturalisation apart Leon. But he is like polish guy and has a life here and famoly (polish wife).

Antropova is more Italian than copravolley who said that he grew up in Poland. So either you stop saying Italy naturalized her, or Poland claims copravolley. Your choice. One of the two options would be great for Italian sports.

Of our 40 medals in Paris, only Diaz won one + Antropova, but that was a team effort. What percentage is that? And here you have 90% of the entire Russian figure skating team wearing Georgian colors... That's not just one or two people.

Hmm, but surely you're not in yout business of judging who's more Italian and who isn't? And this isn't the right place for that, is it:facepalm:

Italy has very little naturalization in winter sports, except perhaps for hockey, where there's no chance of medals anyway. Where else?

The question in figure skating is much more interesting.

Russians release a lot of skaters without quarantine. The discussion on this in their media was very clear: those states will earn Olympic sports.

And earining Olympic spot will mean earning... judge.

So they clearly discussed getting something back from those states.

By the way, it may be one of the resasons Uzbekistan kept its quota so long.

Poland also has 2/3 of its squad from Russia, but they're weak skaters. I don't see the point of taking Kurakova?

Believe me, me too ;) but Kurakova was in better shape and higher in Europe when they agree to help her.

    • Stefania Constantini and her team out of Italy are heading their separate ways   Very confused to be honest, I know they had a bad season but I didn't expect to this happening... there's no real other options for any of them, unless they're focusing on Rock League/mixed doubles.   Italy has no other top female team, and the juniors aren't looking promising either, the last time they qualified a team to a World Juniors (not as host) was in 2014. Doubt the Italian Federation would let Constantini step away from the four-player game, she's too much of a talent, my guess is she'll "be forced" to go with Mariani (I mean her and Mosaner don't like each other much), still I have no idea who else they'd pick up given it's all five of them going their separate ways. Maybe Mathis will go back to representing Switzerland??
