Weightlifting Euro starts today and will be the last with the bloated 10 categories. Karlos Nasar will be here, even though he had some shoulder issues and they were thinking of doing an operation, but looks like things were fixed without one. He is going up to the 96 kg weight, so people at 89 will be very happy to see that :d Especially one host competitor named Marin Robu. Don't know in what form Nasar will be and if he has been thinking about attacking the 96 world record or just play it safe with getting the gold.

still presented herself on the stage with her body and hair totally covered, like a true observant Muslim

Wow, what a disappointment for Marin Robu who missed a career moment to get a home Gold medal. With Karlos moving to the next weight and no Pizzolato too, this was a golden chance for him.

and :ITA Lorenzo Tarquini gets the C&J and the Olympic Total bronze medals in the men's -89kg :yikes:

this is probably the most unexpected set of medals pound for pound for the Italian sport in the last couple of years at least :hyper:

gold goes to :GER Friedrich with a modest 376kg total (modest for what we saw in the last few years, at least)

    • Do you know who the US is going to start?   If it's not Skenes, then the chances of winning go up somewhat
    • That would require the Dominican Republic losing to South Korea and I'll eat a sock if that happens
    • A lot of clear shooting in men's sprint in Otepaa. Laegreid vs Jacquelin ski race for the win.

    • Yep, if they can take advantage of those cracks maybe, but it's too big of a maybe in my opinion. Our pitching has relied on Caissie, Toro, and Lopez the entire tournament, and I don't see that being enough to match the US's firepower.   Canadians are used to disappointment, there's almost always things that go wrong, and there actually being a chance to qualify for the...
    • That was realistic though, this isn't.   The women were heavy favourites, we did better than expected. The men were favourites with their roster of course, but they dominated that final just unfortunate to be going up against prime Hellebuyck who was a brick wall and of course there were a few questionable calls that were crucial in the end.
    • It's unlikely, but possible. USA pitching is not that great imo. Canada will probably have to score 6+ runs to have a chance, but it's definitely possible.
    • If they can beat us in hockey, we can win in baseball
