Big news for the italian cricket! That's a game change for our team

6 Professionals on the men's team but this is the first woman...

If they weren't already, Italy is establishing itself as a top 4 European NOC, not that there was a lot of competition. It'd be more interesting to see if they can bridge the gap between themselves and Ireland and Netherlands.

I really hope we somehow can find the way to develop this game and not just relying on imprt players for the rest of our days

we have a really large number of young people with heritage from true Cricket Nations like India, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh that already play for fun in the public parks and recreation areas in many of our cities

hopefully we should try and get them into the organized game, but first we need to promote the game all around the Country and build some decent infrastructure in order to grow up a serious "system"

I know it's gonna be avery, very long process, but at least we should have room for that in this sport, it's not hopeless like ice hockey

back to the field of play, earlier Today the :AUS men's BBL came to a conclusion of an amazing season (record breaking attendance at the stadiums and in front of the TV screens) with a very exciting match between the Hobart Hurricanes and the Sydney Thunder

the guys from Tasmania finally won it in style thanks to a smashing batting performance: after the Thunder posted a big 182/7 off 20 overs, they answered with a mighty 185/3 off 14.1 overs and won by 7 wickets

hero of the day was Mitch Owen, who scored (tied) the fastest century in the BBL history (100 off 39 balls, ended the day with 108 off 42 balls) for the Hobart Hurricanes

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Will_Bosisto This sounds like an Italian name, correct? Maybe he's qualified too? https://www.espncricinfo.com/story/will-bosisto-the-lost-boy-of-australian-cricket-finds-his-way-in-the-bpl-1470740

Just notice that :AUS Usman Khawaja scored 232 runs off 352 balls in a single innings in the Test match against Sri Lanka.

Two other Australian players have already scored centuries, and the Aussi are 591/5. Massive batting performance

In other news, Steven Smith scored 10k runs in his Test career.

yes, that's definitely an Italian sounding name...

but I have no idea if he's potentially eligible for our NT (especially for an Olympic team) :dunno:

The great cricket is back! :cheer:
The Championship Trophy starts today, where the best eight teams in the world will compete. Afghanistan will be there for the first time, while Sri Lanka failed to qualify. The tournament will be held in Pakistan, except for India's matches, including the semi-finals and final, which will be held in Dubai

after a relatively slow start, :NZL start hitting boundaries left and right and :PAK just couldn't chase their score of 320/5 (50 overs), leaving the home fans highly disappointed

:NZL Will Young (107) and :NZL Tom Latham (118, not out) were the key batsmen for the eventual winners

Tomorrow, it's time for :IND vs :BAN (in Dubai @ 10 a.m. CET)

Yesterday, :IND defeated :BAN quite easily by 6 wickets (after :BAN posted 228/all out off 49.4 overs, :IND scored 231 runs/4 wickets off 46.3 overs)

right now, :RSA are facing :AFG and in the 1st innings :RSA posted a good 315/6 off 50 overs...we'll see how :AFG manage to respond and if they can chase that score

    • Of the top teams the world with traditions, only Portugal didn`t play in 3 World Cups in a row: 1986-2002 (1990, 1994 and 1998), but then fewer teams played in the World Cup than now. I don't really remember what caused the crisis in Portuguese football in the 1990s or how it was done with this later? Perhaps we should follow their example?
    • Well... If not qualifying for the World Cup for the third consecutive time isn't enough to bring about change in Italy, I can't imagine what will be.
    • Gravina is simply stupid and probably has some kind of hold over other important key figures in Italian football, since he was elected in 2024 with a majority of over 90% of the votes... I have a hard time imagining it any other way. Compared to him, even Carraro, Berlusconi and Moggi seem like nice and kind gentlemens   Some people believe that Calciopoli in 2006 began the decline of Italian football and that may be true. It only got worse from there, not counting a single accidental Euro 2021 win- something similar to Greece in 2004. In 2009 Roberto Baggio prepared a 900-page report on necessary reforms in Italian football, but the then-FIGC board tossed it into the trash bin. Now we see the consequences...
    • I thought our former football President was greedy, selfish, power hungry and delusional, but apparently he has an equal counterpart in Gravina. Some people just lack common decency.
    • Well, it's possible that Italians may be more bitter towards short track officials after the robbery they perpetrated against Sighel at the Olympics and therefore more willing to comment and criticize them, but it doesn't make the decision any less ridiculous.   Also, the fact we are Italians, and therefore used to the low standards of football refereeing, makes us especially qualified and trained to identify biased/crooked/incompetent judging
    • I think it was never in the history of our sport has there been anyone as brazen and stupid as Gravina. Before presidents would resign, or at least hide for a while, rather than go into a full-blow scandalous attitude with full larrogance and pride. I hope this idiot gets fired anyway, even if he doesn't resign.
