Howe is Howe, Larissa is just Larissa

Howe was unlucky, he was too fragile and got too many injuries that cut his career short

and the coaches never understood that 200m and LJ not only were incompatible between them (unless your name is Carl Lewis), but are also among the most dangerous event for people with silky muscles

look at Jacobs...he was the new raising star in LJ, but he had to stop practicing it because he was always injured and had to switch to straight sprint (and still he has always a lot of troubles)

being injury prone is just bad luck, not "a waste of talent"

Maybe she will be like Howe, maybe not, time will tell. However, she certainly deserves criticism today for her worst competitive performance in several years. There's nothing to defend here.

I would take everything than Sinner 😂
well not true, tsitsipas is even worse

Maybe he doesn't have Alcaraz's talent, but he's won four Grand Slams title in the last two seasons. If he is in the final and Alcaraz isn't there, he will 99% likely beat someone like Fritz, Zverev, etc. That's the mentality of a great champion. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, is from a generation of losers players who have never won anything big and probably never will (of that generation, only Medviediev has one Grand Slam title). Comparing these two people is kind of pointless... It doesn't even make sense at all:lol:

she's already million times better than Howe! even if she retires Tomorrow, she can say she had a great career

I told you, you don't have the measure of what she's already done and how consistent she's been through the last 4 seasons, despite being so young

you just can't blame an athlete for 1 or 2 bad days in years...it's not fair, even if you're angry for a single disappointing episode

p.s. I tell you a secret: out of 1000 chances you have in life, you won't convert all of them in "success", even more...you can be happy if you keep the average above the 50%

p.p.s. criticism is OK, but it's like "Today you've been awful", not "you're a flop", "she always misses her chances" when that's clearly false

and as I wrote earlier...relax man, relax! enjoy the medals we won, don't get mad for those that won't come

can't wait for the next expected disaster (the baseball Europeans, where we will play with a team made only of players of our league, without any upgrade from the US system)

Ok, but look at Battocletti: two last seasons: and top form at the Olympics/World Championships + a 2 gold medal at the European Championships. She is kept out for the entire season, but when needed, she's at 100% form. I like that approach, not winning the Diamond League and then losing at the Olympics/World Championships. Maybe a fewer commercial starts and more medals at major events? Not everyone is Duplantis, or once Bolt, who won everything and everywhere.

If you think Nadal, Alcaraz or Pogacar are clean, then congratulations on your naivety, but this is not the topic for such a discussion.

Finally got to watch a few highlights from today and managed to see the relay live.  Glad the US didn't bumble the baton, as our men tend to do.  Two golds for :USA today! :)  And congrats to all the other medallists/athletes as well!

    • Hey guys, I contribute Skeleton articles for a new winter-sports focused website called "All things Snow".   I was wondering if any of you could please spare a few moments to read my latest article on the World Cup finale in Altenberg a few weeks ago.   Any feedback on length, content, or just general tips will be greatly appreciated. I'll be sure to implement them in my Olympic Skeleton recap pieces. Thanks!   https://allthingssnow.net/2026/01/19/pfeifer-and-wyatt-win-the-finale-meylemans-and-weston-seal-crystal-globes/

    • changes that go absolutely against the Italians (notoriously the top swimmers and not the best shooters in MP) 😭😭😭   now it's really time to axe MP from the Games 😈🥳
    • I think there was a feeling before the obstacle course was introduced that really, really solid endurance runners were starting to dominate - in Triathlon you might call it the Alex Yee conundrum. Personally, I don't mind at all if the 'martial' elements are reemphasised as that is the real 'soul' of the sport - Triathlon, Marathon and Road cycing are there for genuine endurace, MP is in some senses a 'soldiery' test - one reason I thought Judo might have been a better addition than the obstacle course. But placing a higher emphasis on the fight bits over the flight bits seems a legitimate idea - though it should also increase the X-country nature of the run so that the test of a fresh shooter at the beginning is rather different from the test of a knackered one at the end. I quite like the artificial hill in rio.
