if you mean apps with results, rankings and news, well, I don't use any...I rather go with normal websites.

if you mean apps to watch sport events on TV comfortably lying on the couch, well the list is quite long (normally, I'm using android TV apps and apple tv apps).

I have almost every OTT service you can imagine: MLB.tv (baseball), ESPN Player (NHL hockey, NCAA sports), NFL GamePass, NBA League Pass, Discovery Plus and of course all those free apps where I can find some sport events I'm interested in (from Youtube to the Olympic Channel to most National TV apps -thanks to a good VPN, obviously).

and sometimes I add a few more when it comes to the climax of certain competitions (namely, the Korean and Japanese IPTV service to watch their baseball champs playoffs).

not to mention, 2 or 3 satellite TV subs, too.

I'm a bit sick, I must admit... :hairpull:

it depends on which event I want to follow, however those I use more than others are SVT Sweden, NOS Netherlands, RTVE Play (Spain).

then the Swiss TV, ARD/ZDF (Germany) and BBC/ITV (GBR) are always useful as well, but personally I have those channels on satellite TV, so I rarely use them online.

Polish TVP Sport app is useful sometimes as well

I believe this will be the third major US film (this decade) featuring athletes from the 1936 Olympics after Race and Unbroken.

Hey guys/gals, I thought we could share here good websites from each country that follow Olympic sports in a more local level.

Places where olympic athletes, sports, results, national leagues and politics are covered in depth.

I will start with

:BRABrazil

Olimpíada Todo DiaThe main website that covers Olympic sports (I may be biased because I write for it ). Created after the Rio 2016 Olympics (could it be a legacy then? lol). The main focus is Brazilian (olympic) sports in all levels. Besides the website it is particularly strong on instagram and tiktok.

Surto Olímpico - Created in 2011, the first of its sort. Besides the website, it has a very strong presence on Twitter. Covers mostly elite sports, both in Brazil and international. ps: also biased, as I worked there from 19 to 21.

Globo Esporte (GE.com)From Grupo Globo, the main media conglomarate in Brazil. It covers all sports, and don't necessarily focus on Brazilian sports, but they have an Olympic page. One of the columnists, Guilherme Costa, has a blog focused on Olympic qualification and also an "Olympic thermometer". He is also strong on twitter.

UOL Esporte- As Globo, it covers sports in general. Its Olympic staff produces specials from time to time (like this incredible piece on Daniele Hypolito by Beatriz Cesarini) and also it's home to the columnist Demétrio Vecchioli, who writes for Olhar Olímpico also with a strong presence on Twitter -, notorious for his focus on Sports politics.

Besides those websites (sorry if I'm forgetting someone), Os Olímpicos by Saulo Próspero and Marcio Melo famously cover Olympic qualification from start ot finish. Chapolins Brasileiros is a twitter and instagram account by the best organized fanclub for olympic sports in Brazil. They travel around the world since the 2011 pan American Games.

Most recently, Piu Esportes also started as a strong twitter account and now is moving towards general media, with a youtube channel.

Also worthy of mention is Brazilian Olympic Committee, with a speedy presence on social media through its trademark Time Brasil, specially twitter and instagram - obviously only highlighting the positive side of Brazilian sports.

If you understands well Portuguese or wants to learn, the best way is to hear Rumo ao Pódio with Globo Esporte's journalists Guilherme Costa, Marcel Merguizzo and Giovana Pinheiro. Duplo Twist Hablado is a fantastic podcast devoted to Gymnastics, and is also very active on twitter. And Surto Olímpico and Olimpíada Todo Dia also have spotify profiles and Time Brasil on Youtube.

Speaking of specific sports, Tênis Brasil and Best Swimming are absolutely the best. The latter is headed by Coach Alex Pussieldi, with a very active presence on twitter and instagram. On Brazilian volleyball, be in clubs or national team, a good option is Portal Vôlei, active on twitter and instagram.

For Winter Games, Brasil Zero Grau by Gustavo Longo is the main source of information and analysis.

For academics, I recommend to follow the work of Grupo de Estudos Olímpicos (GEO) by USP - University of São Paulowho releases biannualy the Olimpianos, the Journal of Olympic Studies - with articles in English and Portuguese.

    • In cross-country there were never mixups like that. And trust me, the cross-country calendar/results page has been one of my most visited pages on all the internet for a few years now, for obvious reasons

    • More AI visualizations of the venues.
    • I can count for you, but what I will say is that I don't think it was a lot.
    • Off-topic, when I lived in Beijing there was a park across the street that had all the 2022 pictograms along its fence on the street. They were big and lit up at night. It was really cool, especially because the 2022 pictograms were very unique and creative.
    • They're not very creative or unique to Italy/Milano, but like others have said, at least they're understandable unlike Paris. These are very generic, though.
    • National law and sport rules are completely different. Like, there's a law in Canada that if you punch someone in the face you will get charged with battery. But if you're playing hockey and do it, you'll only get 5 minutes in a penalty box. Japan only recognizes gender at birth and this was not an issue in 2020(1).    Any law Trump and the Republicans pass can only apply to governmental organizations, i.e. school competitions. Private sport events, like the NHL, MLB and the Olympics, can still decided who can and cannot participate in what events. If the NHL wants a female goaltender to play, they can do that tomorrow if they want. If the IOC decides Semenya can participate in the female category, then that's their right as a private entity. I'm sure Hitler wasn't happy that Jews, black people and other groups were allowed to participate in 1936, either.    Of course, I've been saying for a long time they should do away with "male" and "female" categories and just have "Over/Under X amount of testosterone" categories.
    • Yeah, if they have all their FTA* live streams on one page, announced in advance, life will be easier. Before you had to sub to about 7 or 8 YT channels to.know what was on every week.   But the results/events Page is also easier, because previously they used to mix up World Cup & say, Balkan Cup events together.
    • UWW's new rules for change of nationality   this doesn't look great for likes of Bahrain, Albania, Bulgaria, Slovakia, Serbia and few more.    still it won't make a huge huge impact for the next Olympic cycle because each NOC still can use 2 mercenaries per style in each tournament but after 2028 it will be reduced to just 1.    some of those countries already have 3 or 4 (or more) Russian mercenaries per style. from now on they have to pick 2 of them for each tournament. I assumed the new rule applies to previous mercenaries too . https://cdn.uww.org/2024-11/change_of_nationality_regulation_eng_oct2024_final.pdf also you can't wrestle for another country without a passport. (UWW allowed that for some years) current non-national wrestlers can continue like that until the end of 2026 though.   it could be better but in general I'm OK with new rules. good job by UWW.
