Cross-Country Skiing Discussion | Qualification to Winter Olympic Games Milano Cortina 2026 Road to Milano Cortina 2026

After :CZE and :EST now also :CAN and :ITA have accepted a reallocated women's quota, three left which should go to Switzerland, France and Austria. How horrible it must be to be the 5th Australian right now (Maddie Hooker, I'd guess), knowing you're next in line if anyone rejects anything and so theoretically still having a chance, but also knowing that's just not going to happen

Congratulations :) honestly I bet it’ll be so much better having your first Olympics be now vs. during COVID! I hope you really enjoy it.

What are the chances that Italy will get a 6th quotas in the men? When will this be know at 100%?

Happened today, Ireland changed their mind or something. A little delay to make it more dramatic for you I guess.

Oh wow, that is horrible for - I assume - Dylan Longridge.

Until when can they change their minds, because it seems a bit not serious? Maybe did FIS make a mistake?

last Olympics the Alpine quotas kept changing, even after the Olympics started. I assume that was due in part to Covid issues and the late allotment of extra quotas while the legitimacy of some competitions were being investigated. Even 2018 the FIS continued to keep the options open, that may have been influenced by many russian qualifiers who were not cleared to compete for OAR.

I believe that the FIS will continue to fill vacancies if there are unforeseen withdrawals. They do list January 26 as the deadline for entries so I assume that would be it. Unless some athletes can be registered as alternates, then they would still be possible to fill quotas I suppose.

The other consideration is whether AIN athletes are cleared, I don't know when that happens and that could potentially open up more quotas.

FIS has released the FIS Cross Country World Cup 2026/27 calendar: https://assets.fis-ski.com/f/252177/x/46d75109f7/wc-cal_nordic26-27.pdf

27.-29.11. Ruka (FIN)

04.-06.12. Trondheim (NOR)

11.-13.12. Davos (SUI)

31.12.-03.01. Les Rousses (FRA)

05.-06.01. Oberstdorf (GER)

08.-10.01. Val Di Fiemme (ITA)

22.-24.01. Engadin (SUI)

29.-31.01. Toblach (ITA)

12.-14.02. Lahti (FIN)

22.02-07.03-2027 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, Falun (SWE)

12.-14.03 Oslo (NOR)

16.03. Drammen (NOR)

19.-21.03 Ulricehamn (SWE)

oddities in the calendar:

1:There is no stage for the dates 18.-20.12. It turns out that at the beginning of the season there is a 2-week break from 14.-27.12 without any starts; there is no reason for such a long break.

2:Oberstdorf at the Tour de Ski. FIS kicked Oberstdorf out of the Tour de Ski because the weather there was always something wrong and stages were constantly being cancelled, promising that it would no longer do business with Oberstdorf and that there would be no more weather problems at the Tour de Ski. What is Oberstdorf doing at the Tour de Ski again?

3: There is no stage scheduled for February 5-7. This means there's a week-long break without competitions mid-season from February 1-7; there is no reason for such a break.

4: The stage in Lahti (FIN) in mid-February. It can be -25 degrees Celsius in Finland in mid-February. Why risk canceling the stage?

5: The stage in Oslo (NOR) is scheduled immediately after the 22.02-07.03.2027 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, Falun (SWE), which means there will be no 50 km marathon in Oslo (NOR). FIS will not schedule a 50 km marathon for the stage before the 22.02-07.03.2027 FIS Nordic World Ski Championships, Falun (SWE), since no one will come. This means the 50 km marathon will be at the season finale at the end of March in Ulricehamn (SWE). But Ulricehamn (SWE) is Sweden. Also, Ulricehamn (SWE) is southern Sweden. At the end of March, there is snow in Canada, iceland,Australia, and New Zealand. There is also snow in Tibet China, and Japan. But Japan and China have a very negative attitude towards foreigners and will not cooperate with FIS. If the final stage with a 50 km marathon were in Canada, iceland,Australia, or New Zealand, there would be no questions, but southern Sweden? What is FIS thinking?

That's just the usual pre-Tour de Ski break that we see every winter. Quite normal to have three World Cups weekends, then an off-week and then continue the World Cup with the Tour de Ski :)

Awesome to see the Tour de Ski going back to being a little bit more of an actual Tour de Ski now with three countries :cheer: Hopefully we'll also get some of the cool stages back like we used to have (like a long A to B race between towns and such).
