Almost-Brits at the 2024 Olympics

Recommended Posts

I've been meaning to post this for a while, but I thought it would be fun to try and track the 'almost' Brits competing here, who we can root for and claim half a medal if they do well :d (especially if they are in events where there are no actual Brits for us to cheer for)

I'm sure it is a lengthy list, but here's a few to get started. Add more if you know them!

The Irish team obviously has plenty of Ulster men and women. That includes Dan Wiffen, who also attends Loughborough University. There are plenty of other swimmers who either train in the UK or have done previously, including the Hansson sisters from Sweden, Felix Aubock from Austria and, of course, Reuta Meilutyte.

Jessica Fox (Australia, canoe slalom) - she's the daughter of Richard Fox who competed in the same event for GBR.

Chase Jackson (USA, shot) - she is married to a Brit and I believe she lives and trains there.

Larissa Iapichino (Italy, long jump) - she's the daughter of Fiona May, who jumped for GBR and then (much more successfully) for Italy.

Don’t forget Noemi Fox, her sister, also in the KX.  And Cindy Ngamba (Boxing W75), competing for the Refugee team but training with the rest of the British squad, seems to have been claimed as GB by the British press.  I think there are one or two other refugees that are training here as well.

:FRA Aaron Grandidier, rugby 7's, born in London from a british father, raised in Kent, has represented England (15-a-side) as a youngster

GB was not qualified, Ireland is out, the Aussies and Saffas are still in, so really you have no other choice to cheer for us :p

He probably made a wise choice playing for France, given how our 7s team has been in recent years.:p

I mean, we could support :FIJ. They do have our flag on their flag...

    • I have reported this again and they said it should be fixed now, please let me know if you are still facing issues.
    • more countries added to the list of US ban    you can't travel to USA if you are from : burkina faso , niger , Laos , South sudan , mali , sierra leon ...
    • Yes, but what I mean for Serbia is that everything changed there (unfortunately for us ). 2022 was an unbelievable mess, that's not the case anymore now with just one athlete who has really gone for it and made it, so I'm 99% sure they'll accept it this time.   Who knows though. Plus there's always 1-2 bigger countries here or there who reject something, but it's not gonna be 16 places I'm afraid
    • Doping by Event Type When we look at which events have the most doping cases, a few categories stand out from recent sanction records: Long Distance (3,000m and above): 32% of cases Sprints (400m or less): 24% of cases Jumps: 12% of cases Javelin: 8% of cases Middle Distance (800m–1,500m): 8% of cases Hammer: 8% of cases Steeplechase (3,000m SC): 4% of cases
    • From 2020 to 2025    These three countries alone make up almost two-thirds (61.9%) of all current doping violations in athletics worldwide. It’s worth noting that 199 of World Athletics’ 214 member federations have no athletes on the current ban list. This means the problem is really concentrated in a small number of places. Here’s a look at the top countries: Rank Country Total Violations Percentage Region 1 Kenya 119 24.74% Africa 2 India 108 22.45% Asia 3 Russia 73 15.18% Europe 4 China 26 5.40% Asia 5 Turkey 20 4.16% Europe 6 Italy 18 3.74% Europe 7 South Africa 18 3.74% Africa 8 Ukraine 17 3.53% Europe 9 United States 16 3.33% North America 10 Morocco 15 3.12% Africa
