Day 1 finals are:

 

Cycling Road - M Ind Time Trial

Cycling Road - W Ind Time Trial

Diving - W Synchro 3m Springboard

Fencing - W Epee Ind

Fencing - M Sabre Ind

Judo - W -48kg

Judo - M -60kg

Rugby Sevens - M Tournament

Shooting - Mixed Team Air Rifle

Skateboarding - M Street

Swimming - M 400m Free

Swimming - W 400m Free

Swimming - W 4x100m Free

Swimming - M 4x100m Free

I don't know all of these sports, but between the swimming, womens time trial and possibly rugby or skateboarding(just a guess??). This could be a really great day 1 for Australia!

Women's Time Trial, I'm thinking USA, NED, NED (2) or GBR. Men's toss up between ITA and BEL, favouring ITA, Bronze between GBR, SVK, favouring GBR because it is pan flat

Women's 400m AUS, Men's 400 not sure

Womens 4 x1 AUS, USA, CHN Men's 4x1 USA, AUS, ITA CHN, 

Women's 3 Syn CHN, ITA, GBR (I think this event is a bit soft under CHN, medals could go just about anywhere)

Sevens FRA or ARG, probably FRA, Bronze between NZL, FJI and IRL

Shooting I think maybe CHN

 

don't know enough about Fencing to guess, assume Italy will be strong, Korea?

 

So I think best day one will be CHN, AUS, USA in that order. ITA will show well, and GBR may unsually pick up  few Day 1 medals, though they're most ly bronze or bust chances. IRL have a punchers chance in the Men's Sevens, which would be super cool.

 

biggest nailed on gold is China in the 3m Sycnchro, utter utter shock if they fail to realise that, followed by Dyggert in the Women's TT and Titmuss in the W400.

 

most intriguing event, apart from 7sRugby which I just love as a sport is the men's time trial - clear group of favourites on a pan flat course for specialists (as it should be) but all likely to have different back issues and stories. Ganna v Remco, Tadej v Josh T, Wout?

I believe  Grace Brown is a real medal candidate in the womens time trial. Alongside 3 or 4 medals in swimming, I could see them win the most medals on day 1 still. Although  and  are always the obvious contenders.

 

Both time trials will be great races for the medals I believe! All five riders you named for the men's time trial can put on a show.

Australia also has a good chance for a medal with Keeney and smith in woman’s 3m synchro. Many good results at world cups they have had.

Men’s street skateboarding we won’t even get a person qualified 💀💀 Very weak event for us

Interesting, I just made a random guess when I named skateboarding. I feel like  usually has good contenders in the urban sports like BMX and skateboarding.

For  we will struggle to win a medal on day 1. If Ellen van Dijk recovers well from her current injury and if Demi Vollering keeps up her form, we have a shot in the womens time trial. Other than that we have no opportunities. Hopefully on day 2 we'll see our first medal for Puck Pieterse (mountainbike) or Arno Kamminga (100m breaststroke).
