I am not satisfied with this Decathlon competition I am already counting down to Tokyo 2025 world championships. Hope we have full field with Mayer, Warner, LePage , Leo & Kaul

I believe Warner is retiring

Yes he will normally be in similar Rank 16-18th after Day 1 ( he was 20th here) but then breeze past everyone wih a fabulous Day 2 only this time although similar rank but his points total was too much make up. Very few commentators are able to identify Kaul’s strong Day 2. Most are Track specialists with very little input on other events.

Most even try to do decathlon/heptathlon commentary without the number one resource you really, really can't go without: a forecast. I mean, a 2,10m high jump is great, but not if you're jumping 2,20m on a regular basis (for example).

If you'd like to help our fellow Totallympics member Bruna Moura get to the 2026 Winter Olympics, after her car crash on the way to the 2022 Olympics, every tiny bit of help would be greatly appreciated! Full story and how to help can be found here!

I had him as a marginal favourite over Warner pre-Olympics. To see neither of them win gold is really surprising to me.

Yeah, same. Only reason I had them for a total of like 70-80% and not 90+ is because decathlon is both so injury prone and mistake prone (think no heights, no marks, etc, as we saw with Warner unfortunately).

He had 5 PBs & 3SBs in 2 days. That is some improvement. I am shocked, but I didn’t follow the European U23 championships so maybe it was expected. But to perform at that level in 8/10 events is superb.

Again, in Rome last month he had PB'ed 3 times and SB'ed 4 times in the 8 events he took part in.

He hit 8600 at the Euro 23s last year. He's been an athlete on the rise. He's just risen slightly quicker than was expected. :p

You’re not factoring the long NCAA season into that?

I should have done that more than I did :d

Well, sometimes a long NCAA season isn’t always an indicator of people not being at their best at the world level, so I can see why you would value it less than you did. Take Pryce in the 400m, or Long in the 100m/200m (might be missing some names), they’ve been brilliant lately.

Massive lack of time for decent research, honestly :p
