That must have been an extraordinary roller coaster of emotion for Victor Lapena and his players,

as well as everyone rooting for Canada basketball. Their Paris dreams were in shreds when Hungary

went up by 22 points against Spain, before [Spain] came back in a near miracle to win by a point and

send Canada through.

 

Kayla Alexander was superb with her tournament double-double and it's just as well. Semi-Finalists at

the Women's World Cup only 18 months ago, Canada dodged a bullet. They will be better in Paris with

Kia Nurse back in the mix and Natalia Achonwa fitter and stronger. But their perimeter play needs an

upgrade and they so need a dominant ball-handler.

I think noone expects the German Men's to win the Gold medal.

They have perhaps the best team ever in German history, especially since everything is no longer focused on a single superstar (Dirk Nowitzki).

There are leading players (Dennis Schröder, Franz Wagner) and players who have been playing in the NBA (Mo Wagner, Daniel Theis, Maxi Kleber, Isaiah Hartenstein) or in top clubs in Europe for years and are now in their prime. It's a really good combination and on a good day they can annoy any team in the world.

 

It would be great if they could win a medal, butthat is anything but certain.

Satou Sabally was born in NYC. had her parents stayed in the U.S. she would have been eligible to play for Team USA. However, I doubt that she would have ever been invited to a Team USA camp, much less earn a Team USA roster spot for the Olympics or World Cup.

 

There is a reason this is Germany's FIRST ever Olympics for the German Women's National Team in Basketball. The German Women's National Team has a FIBA ranking of 25th. Which means even if you finish DEAD last, your team "should" move up in the rankings. However, do not expect too much from your team. Your team finished a -24 in your group. France finished a +135, we finished a +118, Australia a +40, & Japan +8.

USA Basketball can and SHOULD add Caitlin Clark to the roster

 

Clark's career average from the 3-point range may indeed be just over 38%, but her average distance during the 2022-2023 season was 25 feet, 11 inches — about 4 feet farther out than the men's and women's 3-point line. Three-point shots made 25 feet and out have been affectionately dubbed "logo 3s."

 

The NBA has a 22-foot 3-point line in the corners and a 23-foot, 9-inch line elsewhere. The WNBA and the international game plays with a 20-foot, 6-inch line.

 

No female basketball player in the WORLD has the accuracy @ range that Caitlin Clark has. Not only that, she has a mid-range game & can put the ball on the floor and take it to the rack. The FIBA half court is 45.9318 feet long. That means as soon as Caitlin has crossed the half court line, whether she has the ball or not, someone has to pick her up on defense. She is a true point guard that can also play as a shooting guard. She cannot be doubled. Why? Do you really think that your other 3 players can guard Aja Wilson & Brittney Griner in the high/low post, with Napheesa Collier & Rhyne Howard floating on either side of the key? Caitlin Clark is also VERY effective starting or scoring on the break. She is an excellent passer that can carry a team OR feed her team mates.
