I wouldn't count on our footballers it is a big surprise, that they managed to reach the semi finals.

 

if you have asked me before this tournament I would have said 40% chance to win the quota in basketball and 20% in football

the French are largely beatable and if not there will be a second chance? I predicted Germany and Spain

I never said Canada could win silver. And regarding the bronze I wouldn’t say it’s likely, considering our women’s basketball team ALWAYS underperforms during the Olympics, but there is a chance. Plus, we were out without two somewhat key players in Cassandra Prosper and Kia Nurse, not to mention the potential inclusion of Aaliyah Edwards. Right now I’d put Belgium, France, Spain, China, Japan, United States, Australia above them, but behind United States there’s not that much of a gap between the other 5-6 countries and Canada (China would’ve been clear favourite for silver before this tournament, now I’m not so sure. Sure, they had nothing to play for but a 30+ points loss to France is concerning. France is a good team, but that good)

When a national team has to rely on a minor club player and TWO college players, you have a SERIOUS talent deficit.

 

Kia Nurse: A minor club player

 

Cassandra Prosper: Is at best, the THIRD best player on her team.

 

Aaliyah Edwards: Is the SECOND best player on her team.

I don’t even know why I’m bothering to argue with a troll, but I’ll just say a few things.

I can’t speak on all four prior Olympics, but regarding Tokyo 2020, chemistry and turnovers were the case. That and coaching. Here, partly why Canada struggled so much (besides injuries) is partly due to Victor Lapeña, he’s a really frustrating coach. Very poor coaching decisions, and offensive play schemes during the clutch time in both games. He needs to go if Canada wants to have any chance of an Olympic medal.

Does any of this bullshit of whether they’re a good player on their college/club/WNBA team actually matter? It’s not as if they don’t impact the team. Also, you seem to be forgetting that this is FIBA basketball, not WNBA/college basketball, which means that the rules are different.
 

Regarding your comment on Kia Nurse, calling her a “minor club player”, she’s in the WNBA now, if she’s a minor club player then why would the Los Angeles Sparks decided to acquire her? She was our top scorer in both the semifinal and bronze medal match at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup, she gets it done for Team Canada. 

 

On your last point, the list is mostly agreeable, but for all teams qualified I’d say this:

 

Tier 1: United States

Tier 2: France, Belgium, China

Tier 3: Australia, Spain, Japan

Tier 4: Canada, Serbia, Germany

When did I ever say that Canada could win silver? I said bronze at most, and it’s highly unlikely.
