to stop changing the goddamn sport, enough is enough, the evoliution has been made[overdone in my opinion],and the ioc can shove it up their asses if it's not enough, while they do nothing about other sports [the boxing decisions that never go well, wrestling problems,Badminton/table tennis fixed matches] Modern pentahtlon is by far not the problem  child of the olympic movement. No there's zero chance shooting by itself is coming back, the laser run is it's own thing, but it's the most exciting final that the sport can produce, 4 laps of 800 metres by itself ?[that is the distance, they have made it as short as possible to once again please the ioc overlords] no thank you, that would be really boring and we could all predict the medalists with no problems,no athlete at the elite level wants shooting back by itself, including the few from that era that still remain in the sport,i can assure you of that.Personally i just want a new president who doesn't lick the ioc's ass[ on the uipm article announcing his retirement,no current athlete expressed their sadness,no surprise there, this was a long time coming]I think all that the fans expect would be their star athletes actually being listened to and not mowed over, like what happened with this whole riding debacle,as top athlete voices were completely ignored, over some national federation heads, that don't even have athletes at world cup level. So yeah respect for the stars of the sport would be the highest expectation i believe, along with not bending over anymore to the ioc.

Thanks, let's see how it turns out. Actual shooting might be my own thing then, I'd find it cool if - like in biathlon - real shooting skills play a bigger role then the super quick laser clicks where a miss costs maybe 1 second :p (plus real shooting requires more skills in terms of wind reading and so on)

Anyhow, still looking forward to watch it in Paris, it will be my first time watching it since Tokyo, expect more of my dumb questions about how it works by that time please :d

There not dumb questions:p.i'm happy thay you look forward to watching it.when shooting was an event of it's own in Pentathlon,it was always done indoors,so wind was never a factor there. but there was reloading doing the first seasons of the combined event so the 2009,2010 seasons[prior to lasers coming in the picture in 2011,for the enviroment as it was said at the time.there's footage from the 2009 season if you want to see how that worked, misses did mean that 5-10 seconds were needed for a reload.

The pistols were not .22s like biathlon, but air pistols that had to be hand-loaded and recocked after every shot.  It made it more exciting because there were lots more possibilities for nervous hands to fumble the pellets, mess up the loading etc etc as well as simply missing the target.

That does sound a lot better (especially compared to the way too fast laser shooting), yes :p

but apparently not great for the enviroment,so they got cut

No worse than any other form of shooting. In fact, less so because no powder was used, just lead pellets & compressed air.

But I guess that since MP often shares facilities with other sports, unlike biathlon which has its own ranges, then nobody wants little lead bullets all over the goal line of their lovely football pitch, so that was the thinking.

i remember back when the 2011 season vids were still on youtube,it was made completely about the enviroment, plus kids could practice with the laser guns, not sure they were around football pitches.

OH, yeah, they wanted to be politically correct and make a big song and dance about climate etc, but I am sure that the practical objection was the one I gave.  Horses, on the other hand, are very welcome, nothing better for the grass than horses!  :roflmao:

    • 2 things...   first, for what concerns the cooperation between inline skating and speedskating federations...sorry to disppoint some of you, but there's a great cooperation between them   the point is that many "summer" skaters just don't want to try the ice because they have too much to give up for that   you name places like Collalbo or Baselga, but for the "summer skating" guys from centeral and southern regions it's not an option, it's not that they make it for a living with those disciplines, they have to focus on their studies and build a post-competitive sport career and they just can't place themselves into a hole in the mountains when they maybe are studying in some prestigious universities in the big cities   as I already posted more than once, the idea of covering one of those tracks in the mountains was something idiotic, a political concession impossible to be sustained   the one and only chance to build a true legacy and an efficient, attractive national training center was to build a permanent indoor oval in Milan, beside the Forum   that would have given all the "summer skaters" a true opportunity to try the ice experience and at the same time find the most useful, attractive, prestigious places to continue their studies and try and manage them together with their sports career   any other place wouldn't stand a chance   second...don't give Salvini any credit he doesn't deserve...actually, I think he doesn't even know that in Cortina there's a sliding sports track    it's not thanks to him that the Cortina track's building finally went underway
    • c'mon, guys! relax! sciallatevi un po'!    you're making me sick...it's just the season start and this is a sport where only the world championship (and Olympic, in the specific years) medals count   don't get mad for a couple of races held thousend miles away from home after the team had already passed their first climax (the internal selection)...there are still 2 full seasons before the Olympics
    • Super Round Results   21/11    b.   2-0  b.   9-1   22/11    b.   8-2  b.   9-6   nothing is decided yet, all teams still have a thoretical chance to make the Gold Medal match   Tomorrow, the last day of the Super Round sees  facing the  at Noon local time (4 a.m. CET) and  facing  at 7 p.m. local time (11 a.m. CET)   the medal games are scheduled for Sunday, BMM at Noon local, GMM at 7 p.m. local
    • very poor performance by the US bullpen both Yesterday and Today    not very impressed by this US team for the entire tournament, also in the Mexican first group (Panama deserved to qualify more than them, but they were lucky with the draw and won the decisive direct matchup)   Venezuela confirmed themselves as a very strong team at bat, but with too many troubles on the mound   Today against Japan they had to make a pitching change already in the 1st inning and basically they had to go for a bullpen game, but it didn't come out like the Dodgers'   Japan always on top of their game, even when the pitching staff doesn't perform at best...frankly, they look more and more unbeatable when no MLB superstar is involved (like in this case), but also when it comes down to the top of the pops it's not that they look worse (see 2023 WBC)  there's a serious risk that their domination becomes even too easy, the gap between them and the rest of the world is widening year after year   Taiwan might look like a surprise, but after the 2023 fail, I was sure they were going to rebound and establish themselves among the top teams in the WBSC tournaments, as they are very good in each and every aspect of the game (batting, pitching...maybe a bit less on defense, but you can't have it all)
