So super hyped with this unbelievable generation 2002/03/04

This squad composed of 16 & 17 years boys just beat :CZE U20 in a friendly match 5-2 :hyper:

After so many years there really bright future ahead of us, this generation may already show something in Cortina 2026.

16 year old Slafkovský today 2+1, Chromiak 1+2, 15 years old Dvorský 1+1, 17 year old Šimon Nemec basically without single mistake in defence :bounce:

So sad and unfair this generation never had the opportunity to present themselves at U18 international ice. since our U18 in 2019 was relegated from top division, this generation was already expected to play last year 2020 in the division I A and quickly return to the elite but due the covid the tournament was cancelled, sadly the same happened this year as well...apart the top division all other tournaments are cancelled and our U18 will must stay in lower tier another year, in other hand majority of the team will be eligible in U18 for next 1-2 years so hopefully the likes of Slafkovský, Dvorský, Bečar or Nemec will play this age catehory top division in 2023

Looking for a epic way to qualify for the Top tier league ?

Spišská N. Ves did it yesterday by winning the 2nd League final against favorised Žilina in an absolutely thriller penalty shoot-outs to return to the Slovak extraliga after 11 years.

Here the penalties. Enjoy

Spring usually means the climax of all European Leagues...

this year we are a bit late with the season end in most of the traditional Hockey Nation, but Russia (KHL) and Czech republic (Extraliga) have finally reached their respective Final Series, which started just yesterday...

in the :RUS KHL, it's a battle between CSKA Moscow and Avangard Omsk...

and game #1 already gave us a surprising outcome, thaks to the 4-1 road win by Avangard in Moscow...

but the result is surprising only for those who didn't watch the game, as Avangard dominated from the beginning to the end, leaving no chance to the players of the Red Army, not even when they closed the distance to 1-2 at the start of the 3rd period...

it took a while in fact to Omsk to earn a power play and score the 3-1 with a perfect execution of a well designed set play...

here are the stats and the recap of this match...

https://en.khl.ru/game/1046/877121/protocol/

in the :CZE Czech Extraliga, instead, the Final Series is an affair between HC Oceláři Třinec and Bílí Tygři Liberec, both coming off tight semifinals who went to the decisive game #7...

Game #1 wasn't as excited as expected and Třinec dominated the whole match, taking a strong early lead (3-0 already after 20 mins) and then controlling the rest of the contest...final score, 6-2 for Oceláři...

and while Russia and Czech republic just played the first game of their final series, the Austrian "open" :AUT ICE Hockey League is almost ready to proclame their champions, as the Final series between HC Klagenfurt and HC Bolzano/Bozen is already on the score of 3 games to 1 in favour of the Austrians...

Lol, that Recap from the Game 1 of Gagarin Cup Finals is geoblocked in Finland lol

I'm sorry, but it's expected, as you have a team in the league and a powerful tv network owns the media rights...:dunno:

sometimes living in a Country like Italy with no connections to high level hockey is an advantage, so we can easily access the free stuff all around the hockey world...:d

sometimes, instead, it's a shame, as we can't access certain stuff in any way (and the Finnish Liiga is the worst example of them all...we can't even watch the 2-min highlights of those games   :wall: :hairpull:)...

:CZE Extraliga, Final, Game #2

once again HC Oceláři Třinec took advantage of the home ice and despite the game was a lot closer than the 1st one, they still managed to edge Liberec by a score of 3-1, so now they lead the best-of-7 series 2-0...

Game #3 is scheduled for Thursday, April 22nd at 6.30 p.m. CET, this time in Liberec...

    • I remember Caroline Golubitsky. She competed with Vezzali for a while but not for long. Rita Konig, whom Vezzali defeated in the final of the Olympic Games in 2000, was more famous, as well as Sabine Bau and Anja Mueller. From what I remember, the Germans competed fiercely with us at some point, but they almost always lost.
    • Shemyakina won a bronze medal in 2014 Worlds and was one of our leader but leave the squad due to pregnancy (she has 2 daughters if I'm not mistaking, so she chose family instead of sport). And speaking of foil we have back in the day Sergiy Golubitskyi, who was Olympic silver medalist and won some medals in other competitions and coached his wife Caroline Golubitskyi - one of the German foil specialists. Even in women's foil we had medal in Women's foil at the European championship - it was Olha Leleiko, our current national coach. So no, we are pretty good fencing country, and depending on generations of our athletes some events are more "profitable" for us and some don't.
    • Shemyakina that was a very strange story. She unexpectedly won the games but before and after she literally achieved nothing. After that success in 2012 she also completely disappeared. It's only in epee that such strange situations. That's why I've always preferred foil and sabre, because the top was more stable there, although that's changing now. The competition has grown a lot all over the world.
    • Sinner probably won't play in another edition of the Davis Cup. That shouldn't come as a surprise. Next season, Wimbledon and maybe Paris should be the goal.
    • No, our epee was good always, we have Shemyakina, who was Olympic Champion in 2012, Reizlin with bronze in 2020, medalists of Worlds like Kryvytska (who is our finisher today), Svichkar (who is our finisher in men's side) and Stankevych, European champion Kharkova, medals in other conpetitions from men's team epee who were one of the main contenders in Tokyo, but unfortunately failed to take a medal.
    • Does Ukraine have good relations with Poland, or are they more cold, like, for example, Italy with France?
    • Until recently, Ukrainian fencing was just Kharlan and sabre. Maybe epee sometimes. I don't remember them ever was strong in foil. There was a time when Russia, Romania and Poland were strong in foil at that time when Italy dominated but I don't remember Ukraine anymore.   Hungarian women with Aida Mahomed were too strong for many years.
    • No surprise with Aaron Judge winning AL MVP and Shohei Ohtani winning NL MVP awards.   Ohtani is the second player in history to win MVP in both leagues. Frank Robinson (1961 Reds & 1966 Orioles) was the only one before.
