A good chance for a medal in Paris in a sport or an event that your NOC had no olympic medal before.

Recommended Posts

Only chance to win a medal in a new sport is basketball, but I think we'll just be happy to qualify first.

Fencing and tennis we haven't won medals since 1896, so medals in those sports will basically be new sports at this point :d

Also in water polo both our men and women have won Olympic medals, but no gold.

For a medal in a new event, I guess there are a lot of them. Men's team (basketball), women's sabre (fencing), women's 70 kg (judo), women's pair (rowing), women's double sculls (rowing), men's skeet (shooting), women's skeet (shooting), mixed skeet (shooting), women's singles (tennis), mixed doubles (tennis), women's 53 kg (wrestling), men's 74 kg freestyle (wrestling). 1988 was the last time we did not win a medal in a new event so I guess it's quite likely to win a medal in at least one of these.

I can see it happening for :ISR in two new sports (we have medals only in five judo, kayak, sailing, taekwondo and gymnastic), first is athletics in marathon, and second is track cycling maybe, both not a great chance

The way she lost at Asiad no longer she's the favourite

There is just a small chance, but Handball.

And 3x3 basketball, if we qualify.

I hadn’t realized we still haven’t won an Olympic medal in fencing. Eleanor Harvey and Jessica Guo are contenders in women’s foil. Cordano Russell also has a chance in men’s street skateboarding, although he isn’t one of the favourites as of now despite his 4th at Worlds.

Overall, between surfing, fencing, judo, 3x3 basketball, breaking, and skateboarding, I’m thinking medals in 2 new sports (3x3 basketball/breaking), and a first ever Olympic gold in judo.

Skateboarding and Triathlon should be considered too, although I don't see them even topping the Tokyo results. But Handball likely suffers the same fate.

There's also Breaking.. but that's kinda, well, breaking the rules.

For gold, probably women's football. As if. 3x3 basketball men seems even more likely to grab the gold.

Can’t believe I forgot about beach volleyball, in history Canada’s only won one singular bronze medal, and there’s a chance we can improve on that with Melissa Humana-Parades/Brandie Wilkerson

Our best chance for a medal in a sport we didn’t win a medal in before is Rhys McClenaghan in artistic gymnastics. He’s one of the favourites in the men’s pommel.

Golf is also worth a bet as we have chances in both men’s and women’s events.

Small chances for a first medal in road cycling and taekwondo though I wouldn’t be putting my hopes on them either.

I have convinced myself that Lara Gillespie is winning a medal in the omnium in Track Cycling

I guess for :GER it's men's basketball. Though in spite of everything I still think it will be very difficult for them to medal.

    • Spring Nationals, Day #2   sleepy and somehow disappointing day in Riccione...until the last individual race of the day, when the unthinkable happened: the next big thing in Italian swimming revealed herself well earlier than expected    Alessandra Mao, in fact, despite being only 14 (not even sure she already turned 14, actually), won the National title over the women's 200m freestyle in 1.58.86    given that she basically doesn't have a decent start nor turns and she's not doing any power training in the gym yet, I hope (and think) she has room to become a world star in the next few years   Today's other champions:   women's 50m back: Sara Curtis, 27.90   men's 50m fly: Lorenzo Gargani, 23.32   women's 100m fly: Costanza Cocconcelli, 58.04   men's 100m breastroke: Nicolò Martinenghi, 59.16 (world champ qualifying time...good to see the Olympic champion back on track, despite not in his best shape both mental and physical); in the same race, Ludovico Blu Art Viberti slept big time in the morning heats and was forced to swim in the B Final, which he won in 59.04 (but since he didn't do it in the A final, the time is not accepted as a world qualifier for now)   women's 200m breaststroke: Francesca Fangio, 2.23.67 (only 7/100 of a second outside the world champs qualifying time)   men's 100m back: Christian Bacico, 53.61
