Update after stage 5:

  1. :KOR South Korea - 6.677 points (+1.301 points)
  2. :CAN Canada - 6.031 points (+1.102 points)
  3. :NED the Netherlands - 4.681 points (+988 points)
  4. :CHN China - 4.585 points (+320 points)
  5. :ITA Italy - 2.818 points (+397 points)
  6. :USA the United States of America - 2.776 points (+687 points)
  7. :BEL Belgium - 1.867 points (+320 points)

  9. :JPN Japan - 1.543 points (+306 points)
  10. :KAZ Kazakhstan - 1.477 points (+301 points)

:CHN drops one spot after sending the full Junior team because of the Chinese National Winter Games that start this week. The juniors had their own National Winter Games events in January. I assume next week China will be represented by their juniors again.

:USA and :JPN had their strongest weekends of the season so far. :CHN (for obvious reasons) and :ITA disappointed a bit this weekend.

One more event to go in :POL Gdansk before the World Championships in :NED Rotterdam

    • Weightlifting formula is more or less similar to 2020 which was considered terrible by everybody!    this is a tough sport, you can't be in your best shape for too many events. there will be risks of serious injuries this way. with these rules you need 5 good results to qualify. if you bomb out in an event to score a zero you are out of the Olympics unless you replace it with another event. which means most of these poor guys have to participate in 7-8 events (and not just 5) to make up for possible bomb outs.    most importantly if you get injured anytime during this period (almost 2 years) you are out of the Olympics! that's how Sohrab Moradi missed the Tokyo Olympics despite breaking the WR during the qualification period. you can miss the Olympics in 2028 if you get injured late 2026 !  Karlos Nasar couldn't win the Olympic title if we had these rules in 2024   I understand 2024 qualification formula wasn't great either, it had its own flaws but this one is much worse for threatening athletes' health.
