I was thinking the scoring system of Boxing is the worst in sports ..until I watched Kickboxing :yikes:

Didn't tune in yet, but keep in mind this isn't the 'big' kickboxing like you see in Glory or something, I presume it is more like a watered-down version if I remember correctly from the last time :p

agree, seems like a different version and also seems like they allow kids to be judges :d ...can't link the scoring system with what I am seeing on the screen

Ah, and there's also ski orienteering then (not in the Olympics, but in existence)? Because I'm sure I have seen a few minutes once of a sport where athletes on skis had a map, but that wasn't really possible to follow who was doing well :p

Ski mountaineering sounds a lot better to watch, thanks!

It is better, by like a lot :p

Orienteering has been one of my least favourite sports at these WG along with cheerleading/anything dancing/wushu. I attempted to watch it during the middle distances, my attention was on it for maybe a few minutes at most before I was like yeah nope, never again. :p

There is ski orienteering, but I'd never saw a single race :p

I’m glad, otherwise we would’ve had to have a serious chat

I've never seen squash before, is it a kind of padel?

you can say Padel in prison cell (it's a true story on how it has been invented)

All these games go back to monks in the Middle Ages who used to keep fit by putting leather gloves on their hands and hitting a hard leather ball like a baseball against a wall.  This game is called Fives.   As time went by, rubber balls, wooden floors, perspex walls (for spectators) and strung rackets like small tennis rackets made for a much faster and more popular game.

How can ski mountaineering be compared with orienteering? Is it roughly like a winter version (kind of like speed skating vs inline skating, not the same, but similarities), or just an entirely different kind of format?

Asking because I've never watched ski mountaineering and I sincerely hope it will be more watchable than the orienteering was here, where there were barely any split times shown, they kept randomly switching to people running in some spot and going back and so on. I think especially for a lesser known sport it is imperative to show it in such a way that new viewers can easily understand what's going on..

They seem to have made a mess of the coverage here, but basically it is the same as an ITT in cross country skiing - you have to have commentators who know who the athletes are, multiple fixed points on the course to know who is gaining and losing time and plentiful graphics.

    • I used to think Johnston(e) - from some place John build (aka stone for building something hehe).   I'm not familiar if Scottish or Irish clans are named after such clan founder or a place?
    • i'm triggered,legitimately thought kennedy 2.0 happened,just way more out of nowhere
    • Perfectly obvious.    Johnson = son of John Johnston or Johnstone = From St John's Town ie Perth in Scotland.
    • Nope. Azu missed out by 0.01. Bromell lost silver by 0.001!
