Has that started? I definitely use it on a daily basis and both on my laptop and desktop I don't remember seeing ads anywhere in the past months :p

Yes, from a week now. Firstly they started with warnings, but today i've seen more aggressive approach with a pop-up, that you have only 3 videos, if you don't disable or pay, and then they will block the player.

I am working around it for now. What are you using?

Advertisements are how they make revenue though. Honestly, asking people to watch a couple ads for what is essentially "free content" isn't a huge ask. The bigger problem, if you ask me, is what they pay creators (including those who don't qualify for partner programs, but nonetheless create original content).

Ааа yes, the billions and billions they make yearly couldn't be possible if they don't start squeezing even more the regular person... Get out !

The internet hasn't been free for a while, but in a few years it's going to become like the supermarket.

I guess my opinion will be different since I work in communications/journalism. People always talk about how they want more creative content, coverage of more events, or a more diversified content offering, yet they never want to pay subscriptions, view ads, or pay for newsletters. Reading an article, or watching a video might be free, but production isn't. I'd love nothing more than to publish articles, podcasts, interviews, etc. all day, but I can't make a living doing that for free.

It really sucks when people use ad blockers or read articles/view media on platforms other than where they were originally published. It decreases a outlet's revenue and it hurts the metrics used to measure interest in that particular media (or eyeballs brought to the platform). It can have a huge affect on the employment of people working in the entertainment/communications/journalism fields.

Of course, I don't want to excuse the greediness of major media companies because they do make a lot of money already. I also don't enjoy having to view a bunch of advertisements or pay subscription fees that seem to be rising in cost every year now. I just have a greater appreciation for why, a some level, that might be necessary to support people who create content I do enjoy.

I'm not perfect about supporting content creators by any means either. I too view movie clips on YouTube, or read articles on other platforms. I do, however, have a informed appreciation of how that might hurt the people making that content.

I do firmly believe that content should be fairly priced, with the user experienced unhindered by advertisements or other pop ups. I understand the frustration people have with the industries I work in, the monetization models aren't ideal in many cases, I just want people to be better advocates for content creators and consider how their online habits can affect someone's livelihood.

Hopefully that all makes sense.

Actually not sure, it's so long ago since I set it up, I forgot :d

I believe it's a fairly simple browser extension, I know I'm not using specific hardware or anything. Let me get back to you when I'm with my desktop again.

AdGuard on my laptop (the green icon), Adblock Plus on my desktop (the red ABP icon), didn't know I'm apparently using two different ones :d

Both as extension in Edge and as far as I know both are free.

Interesting, i was using both in Opera and they were detected. I am now on uBlock in Firefox and it works for now. Guess Edge is a safe browser too.

    • I think you're doom spiraling too hard after just a few races...   Giacomel is very strong and I think that he might definitely land on a podium this season. The Italian women's team has a lot of very talented juniors that just need some time to grow. Dorothea Wierer also took her time to grow into her best form, so why is it not possible to give some time to the other talented athletes? Not everyone is bound to crush it at 21-23 y. o.
    • Of course they could make lineal world records, but they don't want that, because those records would never be beaten. And it's way more marketable, flashy etc. when you have "modern" WR and they happen regularly. Athletics have started mastering this in their course of upgrading the old WRs with "exciting new stars".   There is absolutely no reason, when your current weight is up to 89 kg for example, and the previous WR has been set in the old weight at 85-86-87 etc. that it's not automatically taken. It has been set under the current limit, there is no difference if the person weighted 85 or 88.5 kg it's within the range.. Now if the old category was over 89, then there would be an advantage, so those WR shouldn't be taken.    The best way is, like you mentioned, to use the bodyweight of everyone, but that is an impossible ask for any weightlifting governing body. I'm not even sure how they are able to run a normal excel..

Olympic sports Canoeing, Field Hockey, Golf, Modern Pentathlon, Shooting, Sport Climbing, Tennis, and Weightlifting will not be involved in any matter while the non-Olympic sport of Karate was also dropped. Baseball/Softball, Dancesport, and Wushu are non-Olympic sports which will get to participate in some capacity.   22/31 Olympic sports will be present (surfing has yet to be involved at a Youth Olympics).   I know we can't (or should) emulate the Olympic program, but hosts should try to include as many sports as possible, especially the relatively cheaper ones like shooting, sport climbing and weightlifting. The good thing is that it looks like the mixed NOCs events are gone (I think they mentioned this earlier).
    • schedule of events is always the same, you can look at the previous round and see how normally things go   no finals on Friday (qualifications of all events only), medal sessions are always only on Saturday and Sunday (alternating men and women's distances on the 2 days, mixed relay normally ends on Sunday)
    • There are both positives and negatives in this situation. The negative is that we are once again changing the weights and erasing records in an attempt to forget the past and "start all over". Nothing speaks more about the integrity of a sport, when it changes it's system every 5 years.   On the positive is that they are actually reducing the number of weights and not keeping the absurd 10. And i know, that for a long time in the past they were always 10, but i think 8 is the perfect balance.   If only wrestling could reduce them to 8 as well.. Boxing could have 10, but that would still be a plus from their current 13-15, or whatever number they have.
    • I think this time  won't get many 4th places, rather they have some chances to win it all (in Freestyle)
    • some Olympic stars are missing...   no Ceccon nor Martinenghi for  and, above all, no  Marchand
