First great controversy of the games. Jackson and Richardson finish with the same time. Jackson announced as a winner but Team USA make a protest because photo-finish shows a gap so small (or no gap at all as NBC says) that Phelps vs Cavic one can be considered as extremely large. Protest unsuccessfull though. US Team gets mad. Mr. Bach speaks some stupid words at press conference. Richardson crying a lot but finally says - see you at 200 and then we will destroy Jamaica in the relay. Ewa Swoboda smoothly in a final this time, no unnecessary semi-final drama. And then 7th with nice PB. Ta Lou eventually gets her ind medal partly due to JAM controversial false-start in the semis. Uff...

220. ATHLETICS - M Javelin Throw

1. Neeraj Chopra IND

2. Jakub Vadlejch CZE

3. Julian Weber GER

228. CANOE SPRINT - W C2 500m

229. CANOE SPRINT - W K4 500m

1. New Zealand

2. Poland

3. China

Lisa Carrington wins her 6th olympic gold medal. Medal #9 for Poland in Paris. And we have also a men's volleyball team in medal so we are in the double digits!

M 57kg Javier Ibanez Diaz BUL, Jahmal Harvey USA

TEAM SPORTS:

M FOOTBALL - Bronze Medal Game:

:BRA beats :ARG on penalties

M BASKETBALL semis:

:USA beats :CAN

:FRA beats :SRB

W HANDBALL semis:

:FRA beats :DEN

W VOLLEYBALL semis:

:TUR beats :SRB 3-2 match for ages

:USA beats :BRA

W WATER POLO semis:

:NED beats :ESP

:HUN beats :USA - probably biggest sensation in team sports so far. US is vulnerable in W Water Polo, they showed it 2023 WCH and now HUN team makes a sensational win as well, rather bigger sensation than ITA win vs USA in WCH. Is this one of these events where US lose gold which eventually leave them behind China in final medal table? Or they will catch China in the final weekend??? Stay tuned.

Day 14 Fri 09.08

245. ATHLETICS - W 4x100m Relay

1. United States

2. Jamaica

3. Ivory Coast

After all the 100m and 200m and all the NBC hype this is an event which will be remembered for a long time. Jamaicans don't have great first 2 changes and Sha'Carri has a nice lead beginning the anchor leg. Shericka Jackson chasing hard but comes just short. CIV doesn't mess things up like in Budapest and they get awesome bronze. GBR 4th. POL nicely 6th with great anchor leg by Ewa Swoboda.

246. ATHLETICS - W Shot Put

1. Chase Ealey USA

2. Sarah Mitton CAN

3. Auriol Dongmo POR

Ealey winning quite comfortably.

247. ATHLETICS - M 4x100m Relay

1. Unites States

2. Jamaica

3. Japan

Great run by Japanese sprinters who deny Italians, Jacobs messed things a bit this time and ITA only 4th.

248. ATHLETICS - W 400m

1. Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone USA

2. Marileidy Paulino DOM

3. Natalia Kaczmarek POL

Great competition between McLaughlin and Paulino. Wonderful medal for POL here, absolutely amazing. Natalia with new NR - 49.21 (previous NR: 49.28 set by Irena Szewińska when she won gold in Montreal 1976). Great traditional finish by Natalia made this bronze possible. This is my "Rebeca Andrade Tokyo-Like Moment" @thiago_simoes . I cherish Polish ind running medals so much, they are so rare... Shaunae Miller-Uibo BAH back in competition but not in such a good form, and this is the main factor that leads 3rd place possible for Poland. If she was running under 49secs and McLaughlin is there, Natalia had no chances. Anyway, 4. Miller-Uibo BAH 5. Williams BAR 6. Klaver NED 7. Adeleke IRL 8. Bolingo BEL. Only one US athlete in the final but she gets gold for Team US.

252. ATHLETICS - M 400m Hurdles

1. Rai Benjamin USA

2. Karsten Warholm NOR

3. Alison Dos Santos BRA

Ha! Benjamin denies Tokyo olympic champ on the last 20m. We've seen Warholm running much faster before but this time he managed to clear all the hurdles according to the rules heh... McMaster 4th for IVB. So no olympic medal for them.

253. BEACH VOLLEYBALL - W Tournament (but it could be M - the schedule is not clear here)

1. Ana Patricia Ramos, Eduarda "Duda" Santos Lisboa BRA

2. Sara Hughes, Kelly Cheng USA

3. Tina Graudina, Anastasija Samoilova LAT

Tina - Anastasija get a nice bronze but earlier they put on a furious SF battle against Hughes/Cheng losing 1-2 like in 2023 WCH but only 16-18 in 3rd set. Great BRA - USA final in a wonderful scenery in the evening close to the Eiffel Tower. Beach volleyball gets to be one of the most popular sport in Paris olympics. Deserved that for sure.

Canadian bias kicking in, no way we win 8 golds and 15 total in the first 9 days. We won 7 (golds) and 24 (total) at Tokyo 2020 haha.

    • It may also be that Ceccerelli saw that the conditions in the Italian youth teams were very poor and that is why she insisted on setting up her own team (the results of young Italian skiers unfortunately confirm this). A private team will always be better than a team with 10-12 skiers with max. 3-4 coaches, a one doctor and a physiotherapist. Colturi is the only skier in her team and she has several coaches, a masseur, a doctor etc. Of course, it costs money, but since the parents are famous and have money + Red Bull got involved. I don't understand why she can't start for Italy again? Red Bull should care more that Colturi starts in Cortina under the Italian flag than the Albanian one + Red Bull, as a brand, always has a bigger sales market in Italy with a population of 60 million than in small Albania. I hope that this can still be reversed by next year. For this we need talks between the federation + Colturi's parents + Red Bull + possibly the Italian Olympic Committee. Colturi may be a skier equal to Brignone or even better in the future. We can't lose her, so we have to do now!
    • I`m very disappointed with this weekend. Only becouse of Ghiotto form I`m happy. Unfortunately, the women's team will not function well if Lollobrigida skips most of the training camps and Fontana starts alternately in short tack and long track. It will end with her not winning any medals here or there, because it`s already clear that it will be very difficult to achieve good results in long track. I hope that she understands this, because in short track she has a real chance of winning medals in the women's relay and the mixed relay but in long track not.
    • Tragic performance of the Italian women's team - last place and probably something bad happened at the start. There are so few starts in the team that it will be a problem to even qualify for the World Championships - 8 best teams. After Lollobrigida's return and Fontana's addition, I was counting on much more, but it seems that there are too few joint trainings. With individual quality, we have no right to lose to the Czechs without Sablikova, or anonymous Korea. And unfortunately this start will count for a lot, because there are only 2 more and our chances of playing at the World Championships are minimal. In my opinion with Fontana going from Short Track to Long Trackand vice versa, we won't be much use in the team. Here great teamwork is needed, not improvisation. As of today, there is very little chance that we will qualify the women's team for the games.
    • men advanced to Division A for the first time since 2018 (when they went 1-8). Don't expect much progress next year
    • Ok, but there we are talking about a person who has parents from different countries. Colturi has nothing to do with Albania.
    • There are few people here from Austria, Switzerland, Norway and Finland.
    • The worst editions in XXI century for us were Vancouver: 5 medals (only 1 gold for Razzoli's on the penultimate day) and Sochi: 8 medals (but no gold). Turin was already a prelude to this bad period, although the number of gold medals was ok. Overall we won fewer medals at home than in 2002 and this was probably the only case in the 21st century when the host country won fewer medals at home than 4 years earlier, either in summer or winter. In general the years 2008-2016 were very bad in our sport, both in summer and winter. Only 2018 in Korea was a slight rebuild + 2 fantastic summer editions in Tokyo and Paris. in Beijing 2022 we won a lot of medals - 17 but only 2 gold (If it weren't for Gogga's injury, I think it would have been 4 gold).
    • Totallympics had  users at one point, but I haven't seen any hanging around in a while.
    • In terms of total medals, yes. In terms of golds, I’d be fine with anywhere from 6-8.   @intoronto you don’t think we’ll do better or at least the same? Bit surprising.
