Tokyo 2020 Day after Day as it could have happened

Recommended Posts

Day 10 Monday - with EQUESTRIAN corrected (as dcro pointed out - on day 10 this is eventing team and individual, not jumping)

and WEIGHTLIFTING added - I decided to let it go temporarily as it was - so if I miscalculated the weight categories for women's teams of China and Korea DPR, I will leave it now, and when I start from day 1 again, I will fix it. So I think my predictions for 87 kg category are not good, but otherwise I would have to change the predictions from the previous days and I don't want to do it now.

The rest stays the same.

OFF TOPIC - If anyone has any olympic books, albums or newspapers to sell - in any language - I am always interested. I have quite a huge collection but it can always be enlarged :-)

I can‘t agree with your prediction for women‘s 5000 m. Currently Hassan has to be considered the favorite for this event of she decided to compete. The favorites for the other medals should be Klosterhafen (who was in an amazing shape earlier this year and is still pretty young), Gidey (who is also very young) and Obiri. Ayana or Dibaba could be darkhorses.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

No medal for Germany in eventing? Donald Trump admitting that he is an idiot is more likely than Germany not winning a gold medal in eventing.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

This should be a good day for Germany, at least 3 gold medals. I have to mark that day on my calendar.

Attachment is the great fabricator of illusions; reality can be obtained only by someone who is detached.

Doesn't look feasible. China will win the gold here. You can cut Venezuela out and change 49 kg instead.

OFF TOPIC - If anyone has any olympic books, albums or newspapers to sell - in any language - I am always interested. I have quite a huge collection but it can always be enlarged :-)

I have a really good "impressive" collection of Olympics books in Slovak language (all from Seoul 1988 to PyeongChang 2018 + Oslo/Helsinki 1952, Tokyo 1964 and Grenoble/Mexico City 1968) but not going to sell them for anything :d

I have Munich 1972 from CSSR ? And Peking 2008 in Czech language. Do you know any website where I could buy the other ones?

    • Yea I only used transit besides this Uber / bus to the airport and back. All the venues were at the end of the line, so it allowed you to speak with other fans/volunteers etc. I even met Corrine Stoddard's mom after the first session of short track on the way back, and told her to remember our conversation if she won a medal later in the Olympics. We know how that ended up...
    • I used public transit the entire time I was in Milan.   My first day was a doozy, because I had to two flights to reach Malpensa, and then the train into town was delayed, and then I got confused a station and boarded a tram instead of the metro, proceeded to travel in the wrong direction, got off, walked back to the station, found the metro, got off a station early, walked around a kilometer to my hotel, and checked in.   My colleagues mostly took cabs upon arrival, but I deduced to take the frugal approach. That said, I was a true public transit professional by the time I left Milan.   I actually enjoyed my rides to and from venues, because I'd just chat up fans and volunteers from different countries. It helped me learn more about the city too.
    • It's the olympics, sleep is for the weak!    The first day i got there i was on a 12 hour flight from l.a to rome (flight that left mid day), lay over, another flight to milan, uber to hotel, then right away to speed skating (1500m men), then after uber to hockey venue for women's gold final, then after the celebrations uber to the hotel, i ended up being awake about 36 hours that day, the next morning i thought to go sightseeing in the center of milan, but ended up sleeping until like 2pm..... and had speed skating/short track that night
    • I tried to get onto the metro multiple times and gave up    I had just arrived the day of from Bangkok (12 hr flight) and was just exhausted and wanted to sleep
    • Plus, you missed out on a potential metro ride with me, which is quite priceless in my opinion
    • My hotel was very close to Rho so was easy to get there, but it was so far from the hockey venue that after the women's gold medal match it was so expensive to get back, and also the next day after the usa slovakia semis it took forever, the asshole driver took the city and not the freeway
    • Uber cost me $224 CAD to get back to the hotel from the OC. It basically prevented me from buying tickets to a speed skating session
    • Romania's national team coach, Mircea Lucescu, has died half an hour ago He was in hospital since March 30th, just before the friendly match against Slovakia. Unbelievable how the life can have such turns...in March 26th he was in Istanbul playing the WC qualifying play-off vs Turkiye and now he died.    Thank you very much for every moments you bring us in your huge career (he's on 3rd place in a most trophies won in career, after Ferguson and Guardiola) and may your soul rest in peace, Mr. Lucescu.
