Shooting 2016 Discussion Thread

Recommended Posts

Double Olympic trap champion Michael Diamond (AUS) was caught driving drunk with a rifle and 150 rounds on his back seat. This resulted in him losing his weapons license, at least for now.

What do you think, should the Australian NOC refuse his participation in Rio because of this (if he even gets his license back, that is)? I think they should. People who act this irresponsible especially in a sport like shooting should just stay home.

Who would be next in line? Another Australian or another nation?

Gold for Velickovic in air pistol :yikes: Stefanovic was in final in 10m, Pletikosic in prone and Sebic is in 3x50 final today. So, who will be out of Olympics now? :(:(:(:(

Of 10 candidates for Rio, 9 of them can win medal there (and all of them have realistic chance for that). Only Sekaric are without chance, but Im sure that she will be in Rio because record.

How do you see Pletikovic' chances? That would make for such an awesome story, winning a medal for the Unified Team and then competing again (and have a realistic medal chance) 24 years later

Well, his chance is not bad at all. He was in crises in last 5-6 years, but he is back now. :d

    • Where did you get that?   I'm not sure I would have considered her to have dissapeared from out of nowhere, at least since after Tokyo... she did win medals at the next two World Championships. I think it's just recently, she's been struggling with injury which is why she's completely out of form...
    • Even though I'm not the biggest fan of her, always sucks to see a career ending through injury and not on your own terms
    • This is going to have an effect on very likely 0 athletes, possibly 1 or 2 we don't really know about yet. It's really mostly the cheapest possible way for them to make a sort of political statement, without having any significant backlash since it won't really affect anyone at the top level of international sports.   Edit: worded a bit wrong, I was thrown off by everywhere 'trans women' being mentioned as the target of this. Of course there is also the somewhat larger category of DSD and the likes, which will certainly affect a few athletes - unfortunately they are often thrown under the bus or mentioned as 'not really women anyway' or something like that, despite, you know, being.

    • People focus on trans people because it's easier to pinpoint the affected athletes. Meanwhile it's the athletes with (suspected) DSDs that will have tougher time to convince the authorities and the public opinion that they belong to women's sports.
