So apparently there is a four continents speed skating championships this weekend, only 53 athletes from 8 countries. Some countries like Kazakhstan are not competing.

There sure is, first time too!

 

As long as Canada, the US, Japan, China and South Korea send their A team it will still be more competitive than the European championships.

Probably this only means that only non-selected athletes and non-qualified nations will compete.

Honestly these championships should be developmental only. They have become the FIVB of winter sports, with endless championships.

      Spalletti is a much better coach than Gattuso, but what did his team show at the Euro against Switzerland, or in Oslo against Norway? Nothing... I'm afraid that even Guardiola and Klopp wouldn't help here- well, maybe they could somehow push Bosnia through, but what next?

      Denmark can only blame themselves for that Belarus match. A win and they'd qualify with a game to spare alas...   Gattuso has no business being a manager at this level. Italian problems come from the lack of domestic talent in Serie A but Gattuso ain't gonna fix anything.

      Just listening to Gattuso is enough to understand that he's a simpleton.  Honor, pride, grit...but he is a coach, not a Spartan soldier. And he was surrounded by other idiots who confessed they had to buy their high school diploma. 1-0 up but down to 10 men and they are playing only counters with a lone forward with good pace (Kean, who almost scored the second) and Gattuso replaces him with a target man. Then 1-1, the team is forced to play more possession and the first thing he does is taking out a ball playing midfielder (who served a near assist just moments before) for Frattesi, who is only good in running into empty spaces to finish but always shy away from playing the ball.

      The last time this team played well was at Euro 2021 under Mancini, but they 8 months later they lost to Macedonia at home in a 2022 World Cup qualifier play- off at home game... In my opinion, Italy Euro success was thanks to Chiellini and Bonucci's recent big form and Chiesa's tournament of a life. Without them, Italy is simply average team: the 1-4 and 0-3 group defeats to Norway wasn`t a case (under Spalletti, so a good manager, at all). Play-offs, however, are always a lottery in this format – especially when you're playing decisive matches away and also under the pressure of Italy now + Bastoni's red card episode. Such things are decisive. Take the current play-offs: Poland, Denmark and Italy could just as easily have advanced, instead of the Czech Republic, Sweden or Bosnia. Top teams simply don't have to play in these play-offs, why they avoiding the risk of defeat. In groups you have 7-8 home and away matches and no only one- last match chance away

      Btw our coach (likely in a couple of days ex-coach as well ) Calzona, not the pizza, Italian himself, presented his 2 cents about Italian failure as well in the press conference after our useless match against Romania.
