Yeah my surprise is not "He's born on Guam but competes under US flag", it's "There's a player born on Guam at the world championships" :p

And about Aruba: it sort of depends on the status of the parents apparently, the main thing I saw is that a child born on Aruba from married parents - at least one of which having the Dutch nationality - is automatically a Dutch citizen.

Baggish is only 36-years-old! He looks a lot older.

That's because he's got a, let's say, healthy Pacific posture :p

Well, USA has the law of the land so anyone born in Guam is an US citizen :p I suppose Aruba, Curacao and the Dutch Antilles follow the same pattern (can't be sure about Surinam these days).

Bulgaria badly needs their own Van Barneveld :d

If there was a bulgarian in the Worlds, he'd have to be throwing on the back of Grigor Dimitrov to be mentioned in the media. :d

Not always true though. Our laws concerning territories can be rather xenophobic. For instance, people born on American Samoa do not automatically receive American citizenship. We don’t even allow them to have representation in the US Government.

Because USA annexed those islands and of course you're not gonna allow them to join the independent Samoa

    • Yeah. It was pretty bad that they cancel the contract with the original creative director after 7 months of work. I feel like politics, in this particular context of the changing of prime minister and the cabinet, may had caused changes in organizational decisions regarding the Sea Games including the direction of the opening ceremony.
    • That's what I figured.  Wouldn't be a proper lead up to an Olympics without some media-fueled fearmongering.
