Would be the biggest surprise if it happens

I thought they were taking on Qatar, seems as if I can’t read properly. Although to be fair, it’s 4am from for me so maybe that explains it :dunno:

Still always a sucker for an underdog, especially North Macedonia, Faroe Islands, and Iceland in men’s handball. Well besides Sweden… I have a soft spot for Palicka :d

Yesterday Results:

Group I

:ITA VS :SUI 25-33, despite the results but both teams deserve great appreciation for their performance during the tournament with :SUI finished 3rd in the group I after giants :DEN & :GER while :ITA finished fourth in one of the biggest surprises beating more experienced team either in the preliminary group or in the main group. the match itself was for :SUI from start to end.

:CZE VS :DEN 22-28, another win for :DEN, while :CZE GK did very good game to keep the score as close as possible (both keepers made 15 saves most of them from Mrkva in the first half.

:GER VS :TUN 31-19, continuation of the disappointing performance from :TUN one of the worst tournaments for them which was easy game for :GER to give more time to their subs to show off.

Group II

:NED VS :AUT 37-37, before the game there were limited chances for :NED and no chances for :AUT to qualify, but the game was full of enthusiasm and was on fire till the end. draw was fair looking at both teams performance.

:QAT VS :HUN 23-29, start of the game was for :QAT and they increased the gap to 4 goals until :HUN coach changed the attacking tactics by adding additional pivot for almost the whole game, the old lads from :QAT were not able to cope with such tactic and :HUN almost scored all those attacks, in addition to quick start and fast breaks against team has most of its best players over 37 years old.

:FRA VS :MKD 32-25, good start from :MKD and they were competing goal by goal till min 15 when :FRA started increasing the gap, with more experienced players in the French team was very difficult for :MKD to comeback.

Standing:

Group I

:DEN 10 Qualified

:GER 8 Qualified

:SUI 5

:ITA 4

:CZE 3

:TUN 0

Group II

Honestly, not even in my wildest dreams would I have expected a result like this. Historic victories against Norway, Sweden and Spain, and a great game against Portugal. Against Denmark, only a miracle would have been needed for us to win, and I will certainly be rooting for that, but looking ahead to 2028, it is already an excellent result.

Yesterday Results:

Group III

:POR VS :CHI 46-28, a well deserved win for :POR to continue their magical performance in this tournament, leading this group and qualifying to QF on top of the group to face :GER

:ESP VS :BRA25-26, another historical win for :BRA , the game was very good and full of good action despite the fact that :BRA already qualified before the game, the game was up in air till the last second when :ESP left wing go for final shot but went wide.

:NOR VS :SWE 29-24, the home team :NOR  tried to end the tournament in good form after losing their chances to qualify (almost) since the preliminary group stage. the game was mainly for :NOR from start till the end and they managed to finish 3 rd in Group III after 3 wins in the main round. :SWE is very slow team and if the GK not in form they usually struggle in recent matches..

Group IV

:ISL VS :ARG 30-21, :ISL tried to hold the last hope by beating :ARG waiting either :CRO or :EGY not to win in order to qualify, of course their loss against :CRO by 6 goals was a disaster for the nation who were heading the group till the previous game.

:CPV VS :EGY 24-31, :EGY played another bad game ..actually very bad, started with the subs and score became 4 goal different to :CPV even when the main team was on field we see :CPV heading the game till almost the mid of second half when the experience played a main role to give :EGY the win. side note: bad players with a good keeper would be a good team ..great players with bad keeper it's a bad team ..imagine if there is no keeper!!!!

:CRO VS :SLO 29-26, this game was a decider to whom will qualify as first and who will finish third between :ISL and :CRO  (surprisingly 2nd was reserved for :EGY before the game), the game start with very good performance from :SLO who were heading by 4 goals till the end of first half when :CRO managed to draw, till the mid of 2nd half the draw was there but last quarter of the match was for :CRO who managed to qualify first in front of their home fans to face :HUN in the quarter final.

QF matches:

28th of Jan

:CRO VS :HUN

:FRA VS :EGY

29th of Jan

:DEN VS :BRA

:POR VS :GER

For me Egypt deserve credit for reaching this stage without the team's best player Yahya Elderaa before the tournament and without the second best Ahmad Hesham in the main round, So finishing 5th or 6th would still be a big achievement.

And although France are the favorites but they doesnt look unbeatable like Denmark and if Ahmad Hesham is fit and if Egypt can replicate the same defense they applied against France at the Olympics things may get very interesting.

The team needs more development before LA:

- More players to go outside (look at Seesa, Sief or Dodo development and compare it with someone like Mohsen or Abd Elrahman Abdo)

- new Keeper (Hindawy is below average)

- Ahly and Zamalek need to let more players to go out and get more internal transfer to keep it flow

- Ali / Elmasry / Sanad will be older, smart replacement is required

- Mohab (the best sub so far for Yaya) to take more time on field (after returning from his injury)

- Thanks Pastor, younger coach is required, Pastor is a great manager but still old school believer. I know Paraondo maybe difficult but similar generation would be great (I hope Danish school).

Let's wish good luck for the team today I don't know why I am very optimistic (without valid reasons) :d

    • It was very low to begin with though.    However, I will say this match has really shown me that they'll for sure be contenders in the future when they have more experience, and they still have 2-4 Olympics left in them
