So in order to qualify, Poland need to finish 3rd or better OR Hungary ending up in 8th place.

yes, if POL are 3rd, they need HUN to end up in 6th place (or worse)...

meanwhile if POL make the final, they qualify no matter what's the Hungarian placement...

*fixed from the previous version with wrong counting...

no, POL are 3rd and HUN are 5th, they are tied in the OQR...and POL have the tie-breaker (they both have a "25" as discarded score, but POL have a better "top score", 56 pts at the world champs against 48 pts at the same event by HUN)...

so, POL need HUN to end up 6th or worse (if they are 3rd)...

they don't stand a chance to be 5th, however...RUS would destroy them even with their C team...

and if POL beat USA, then they don't hace to look for what the Hungarians do...

the first part of your post is true, which makes the second part false :p

Meanwhile (women's foil)

:KOR Jeon Hee Sook

:CHN (tbd)

have secured an individual quota

Not mathematical, but still almost sure quota for:

:GER (Leonie Ebert, not yet mathematically)

:TUN Ines Boubakri

:COL Saskia Loretta Van Erven Garcia

For the last European spot we have to wait.

ops...

obviously, you're right...

I don't know why, but I was thinking the opposite of what the situation actually is...

by the way, in Egypt we have a quarterfinal between KOR and HKG, which is basically a direct match up for the Asian spot (if one of the 2 can't make the top 4 overall, which however is highly possible...and in that case, they'd both qualify)...

it's probably down to a possible ITA vs RUS match up in the quarterfinals, should the Russians win, they would still have a remote chance to go further and steal a top 4 place, which would kill the hopes of the loser of the KOR vs HKG matchup...

    • Yeah, we have such a strong crop of Juniors, that we can’t take them all. They all have exciting trajectories but to predict what Junior swimmers will is always difficult. Better to let them all swim together at Juniors than rocketing them all up to seniors and swimming a prelim and going home.
    • Hanlon is the most unlucky, in my opinion. Aside from relay cover, she's the 50m champ and they made a point of including consideration for those events being in LA for the other discretionary picks. Essentially she has the same case for selection as Max Morgan (albeit without the trajectory right now).   Blocksidge's form was way off this week (compared to her previous bests). Obviously being still young you could put that down to relative inexperience. Still, she has World and European Juniors that she could still be selected for this summer. There's an argument that performing well at those might be as beneficial as going to Singapore.   That said, I'm happy that they did take a bunch of discretionary picks. That's not always been the case.
